Description
Shiny was established in 2012, as a small scale operation, brewing in Derby mainly for its brew pub. Now based in the beautiful village of Little Eaton, just outside of Derby. The brewery is based in the centre of the village and has a taproom which features all Shiny’s new beers and one off pilots. Our beer story began with untraditional highly hopped cask beer and now has evolved into brewing a range of cask, keg and cans, the ethos is still the same brew beers we love to drink which means lots of hops! All beers are unfined and a good number of our core range is certified Gluten Free.

On tap at Suds & Soda, Derby. Pours a murky peach with a small white head and good lacing. Tropical fruits are the mainstay of the aroma. In the mouth it is quite bitter with a creamy texture. Flavours of floral hops, stone fruits, pine and grains plus traces of ginger and spice. Finish is spicy and slightly dry – this is reasonable though not a style I would normally enjoy.

Draft at the Pup & Duckling, Solihull. Poured a hazy yellow golden colour with a thin white head. The aroma is grainy malt, light citrus. The flavour is moderate bitter, with a crisp, fresh, mineral, light citrus, light woody hop bitter palate. Medium to light bodied with average carbonation. Somewhat light but tasty and refreshing.

Cask at the Kelham Island Tavern, Sheffield on 14th February 2024. Clear gold with dense whitish foam and scant lacing. Hoppy aromas. Grassy hops and grapefruit/lemon citrus in-mouth. A citrusy and grassy finish, becoming bitter and lengthy. Full bodied with an engaging texture.

Cask @ The Baum, Rochdale. Hazy golden with a thick creamy head. Tropical fruity in both aroma and taste but subdued by the brew's crisp cask texture.

Handpull cask at the Spitting Feathers Brewery Tap, Chester. Dark brown and only a bit translucent with a full yellowish tan head. Creamy chocolate aroma, French vanilla, a little metallic character. Sweet and creamy taste, more chocolate, some caramel. Bitter near the finish; normally I like a little bit of balance but this was jarring. Easy smooth body with soft carbonation. Mostly very good.

Keg draught at the Real Ale Classroom, Leicester city centre. Dark, brassy gold. Clear with an uneven off-white/beige head. Aroma of sweet gummy resin, light metallic notes, citrus and pine. Taste is bitter with notes of orange caramel coming in. Heavy bitterness on the finish. Lovely body with the carbonation dialled up to 11. It's a good beer, and gets better the more I drink it. It tries too hard to be a Westie and ends up tasting a little supermarket-y but I like it all the same.

Keg draught at the Blue Boar, Leicester. Light gold, maybe a little bit of haze. Trying to place and then describe the aroma: got some fresh lime juice mixed with sweet cooking spices. Sour taste, more hard citrus with some ground coriander. Touches of umami. Long tart finish. Light body with heavy, tight carbonation. Wow.

Keg draught at the Real Ale Classroom, Stoneygate, Leicester. Dark brown, a little translucent with a small uneven film of khaki head. Scent of raspberries submerged in chocolate. Decadent and gorgeous. Taste is the same except... marred by a weird sourness almost immediately. Its the raspberry note that seems to be souring it up but it still jars.
