Description
Shiny was established in 2012, as a small scale operation, brewing in Derby mainly for its brew pub. Now based in the beautiful village of Little Eaton, just outside of Derby. The brewery is based in the centre of the village and has a taproom which features all Shiny’s new beers and one off pilots. Our beer story began with untraditional highly hopped cask beer and now has evolved into brewing a range of cask, keg and cans, the ethos is still the same brew beers we love to drink which means lots of hops! All beers are unfined and a good number of our core range is certified Gluten Free.

Keg draught at the Real Ale Classroom, Stoneygate, Leicester. Dark gold, hazy as hell with a proper white head. Although I like it, I am not quite sure what's going on with the aroma. Citrus and slight vegetable - not dull and cooked but brighter, peppery vegetable- with notes of mint. Taste is more down to earth with a sweet citrus turning to bitter. Suggestions of lemongrass and persimmon in the aftertaste. A mess but a fairly lovely mess. Get stuck in!

Keg draught at the Real Ale Classroom, Stoneygate, Leicester. Dark brown, a little translucent with a thin khaki head and lots of lacing. Aroma: I can't get past the bourbon. It's intense and sour and strong and beautiful. Taste is similar. There's some gotlrgeous dark malt and treacle notes but for the most part it's all bourbon. Wouldn't mind that aspect being dialled back a little - if I want bourbon I'll drink bourbon - but there's no denying this is very well made. Thick body with medium carbonation. And at an insane price point (which doesn't affect the rating but worth mentioning): £3.30 for a third. 13%. That's 2012 prices.

Keg draught at Bang in Belper. Light gold, hazy with an uneven white head. Pineapple and melon dominate the tropical fruit nose. Taste sweet with a light bitter kickback. Light body, heavy carbonation. Kind of a pale by numbers but Shiny certainly know how to do them.

Keg draught at the Fishpond, Matlock Bath. Light, light gold, almost straw. Hazy with a small white head. Lots of berry in the aroma with a little bit of pink grapefruit and vanilla. The Mosaic is big on the nose, but I'm tasting loads more Simcoe than anything, with big sweaty stone fruit in the nose alongside berry and candy sugar. Finish is slightly less sweet than what came before. Light body, medium carbonation. Yes please.

Can. Beer Stop Dronfield. Murked up slightly dirty looking gold. Thin fairly loose, but lasting just off white foam. Oaty up front. Decent citrus notes. Bit milky overall. Taste is pretty sweet with some mineral dryness. Ok body with fairly high carbonation. Moderate bitterness to finish. It’s ok.
