Description
Shiny was established in 2012, as a small scale operation, brewing in Derby mainly for its brew pub. Now based in the beautiful village of Little Eaton, just outside of Derby. The brewery is based in the centre of the village and has a taproom which features all Shiny’s new beers and one off pilots. Our beer story began with untraditional highly hopped cask beer and now has evolved into brewing a range of cask, keg and cans, the ethos is still the same brew beers we love to drink which means lots of hops! All beers are unfined and a good number of our core range is certified Gluten Free.

Keg draught at the Blue Boar, Leicester. Brown bordering on black with a menacing khaki/tan head on top. Notes of vanilla, freshly mown grass, tre!cle, TCP. Maybe a touch of tobacco. Sweet taste but not too much so. Light notes of stone fruit, almost a sourness before the boat balances and nothing goes overboard. Big body with medium carbonation which lets the beer do the talking. This beer is insane.

Ob tap at Suds and Soda, Derby. Pours a cloudy grapefruit / straw with minimal white head and good lacing. Aroma is strongly citrus with grapefruit and lemon to the fore. In the mouth it is sweet and juicy with citrus again prominent – this time along with mango and gooseberry. Finish is dry and slightly sticky – it’s OK.

Keg at the Real Ale Classroom, Stoneygate, Leicester. Light yellow gold, hazy with a small white head. Aroma is melon melon melon melon. Some other tropical fruits such as pineapple and citrus as well. Sweet taste, more melon and some pineapple and banana. Bitterness comes quickly on its heel with a well-judged amount of bitter hop hitting the back of the mouth in the otherwise short finish.

Gravity cask at the Real Ale Classroom, Stoneygate, Leicester. Light yellow and hazy, with a loose ring of white head.the aroma is big on pineapple with suggestions of mango, orange and melon. Sweet taste, very hoppy - I'm getting a lot of melon rind here, some malty Horlicks. Thin but slightly creamy body, no carbonation. A lively hoppy beer from Shiny.

Keg at the Harrogate Tap. Light to mid-gold, hazy with a small uneven white head leaving a reasonable amount of lacing. Neat little aroma of grapefruit, orchard fruit, herbal notes and Advocaat. Taste is balanced with the sweetness quite quickly giving way to a heady bitterness which follows through to the finish. Stodgy little body with carbonation slightly on the soft side. Very different from most pales and worth a try.

Cask at Ship Aground, Stafford. Pours a cloudy dark brown with a small foamy cream head. There’s bananas, bugglegum and chewy strawberry in the aroma. In the mouth it is sweet and creamy with flavours of toffee, fudge, banana, cola and butterscotch. Maybe some hints of malts as well. Finish is slightly dry. The is nice enough, but it’s a gimmick rather than a beer !
