Cask at Ship Aground, Stafford. Pours a very dark reddish-brown with a medium sized foamy tan head and good lacing. There’s butter and in the aroma. Whilst in the mouth the main flavours start off as peanuts, cream, roast malts and pecans. Later chocolate comes through as well plus hints of dark fruits and fudge. Finish is dry and slightly creamy. This is nice.

Keg draught at the Blue Boar, Leicester. Black and only a bit translucent with a touch of beige/khaki head. Caramel, chocolate and marshmallow motes in the aroma. So far, so good, but so unsurprising. The taste brings a sweet, smooth vanilla bean character which quickly descends into a bitter finish. Nice. Predictably thick body for the ABV with low to medium carbonation. An impressive beer.

Cask at Ship Aground, Stafford (not yet listed in RateBeer). Rhis is basically a liquid Crunchie bar ! Pours almost black with a large foamy cream head and good lacing. Tons of honey in the aroma, and it’s the mainstay in the mouth as well. Also there are roasted malts, chocolate, treacle and toffee. This is very nice.

Keg draught at the Real Ale Classroom, Stoneygate, Leicester. Mid- to dark gold and hazy with a small white head. Lush aroma of melon and banana. The taste is sweet with masses of tropical fruit, some vanilla, hints of citrus. Bitterness as the hops settle at the back of the tongue in the finish. Full body and lively carbonation. Amazing stuff.

Cask at Furnace, Derby. Pours “bitter brown” with a small off-white head and good lacing. Malts are the mainstay of the aroma, plus some general nuttiness. In the mouth it has a slightly watery texture, with malts again to the fore along with caramel and hints of toffee and woody hops. Finish is somewhat more bitter. This is reasonable.
