Description
Maxim Brewery began full production in Houghton le Spring in 2007.
To brew the best beers possible requires the best brewery equipment available. Our 20 barrel brewery equipment was previously at the Canongate Brewery on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh’s historic Old Town. This was Scottish & Newcastle’s pilot brew house and as you would expect, was built to a very high specification. Indeed, it remains probably the best equipment of its size anywhere in the UK today. Our flexible Brewery with its special Lautering system allows us to brew between 3,000 and 17,000 pints per day and importantly ensures that we can maintain the highest quality and guarantee a regular supply of cask, keg and bottled beers to the drinkers of the North East and beyond.

Cask at Standing Order, Derby. Pours dark chestnut with a small scummy off-white head and good lacing. The aroma is mainly malts plus some hints of autumn fruits. In the mouth it is sweet and creamy, but also somewhat watery, with malts, traditional hops and pear drops. Some dark fruits come through later. This is reasonable – if somewhat bland.

The pub I'm in has lost the ability to take card transactions, and they don't think it will be resolved today. I'd certainly be interested to know what percentage that affects their takings later tonight, today being a Friday! I paid cash for this one obviously. It's pretty much as described. It's not particularly sour but the cherry dominates without any sweetness involved. Most roasted in aroma.

Cask at London & North Western, Birmingham. Clear amber, small white head, moderate retention. Has a caramel and banana aroma. Taste of malt, toffee, banana. A modest sweet fruit tang and bitter finish. Something a bit different and it half works.
