Decent Flanders red, sour but not face-rippingly so, strong notes of tart apricot with an underlying modest oak-laced vanilla sweetness and a moderately sour, bready fade. Pours reddish-tan with a slight white head and mild lacing. Sparkly feel needs a little more oomph. Okay.

Gorgeous pour, coming out the can a rich orange-gold with a massive white top and layers upon layers of lace. Not so great of an aroma, mostly offering up caramel with hints of pine and citrus. Tastes pretty average for an IPA, skewing slightly English in its malt-centric sweetness, caramel and candy apple and tea backed by modest orange-citrus notes and a piney, floral finish. Good texture, creamy but bright. Pretty skippable overall, though.

Okay gose, tart and citric with a mildly sweet cereal backbone. Lemon and grass lead to a slight floral bitterness, and the clingy sourness lasts deep into the fade. Bland nose, and not all that pretty of a pint, but crisp and drinkable.

Bottle. Pours slightly hazy golden orange, small beige head, dissipates quickly, some lacing. Aroma is tequila, acetone, wood, lemon. Flavor is medium tart, light bitter, tequila and lime, some sweetness, floral notes. Medium body, low carbonation. Ugh.

Nothing in this beer is working for me. Cloying sweetness from the get-go, with an artificial chocolate front blotting out any of the deeper malt or fruit characteristics you want in an old ale. Grows a berry tartness towards the middle, but the intense bitterness on the back end mixes with the chocolate to create a saccharine, NyQuil-ish boozy finish, unappealing and incredibly clingy. Sugars refuse to relent on the fade. Nose is strangely weak, however, giving no hint towards just how massive a chocolate syrup-bomb this brew truly is. Looks okay, texture’s thick with a noticeable burn. Made it through a third of a 12 oz. can. Hard pass.

Bottle thanks to Karl. Pours a very dark brown with dark medium beige head that diminishes quickly. The aroma is strong roast, wood, dark chocolate, a bit oxidation. Medium body, dark chocolate, wood, dry finish, very good.

Tap at Flying Saucer Emporium, Memphis. Colour is slightly cloudy light orange with small white head. Aromas and flavors: Fruits, citrus, hops and malts. Pretty nice.

Pour is a super thick black like motor oil with a small tan head. Aroma is a nice roasted malt with some chocolate and alcohol. Flavor is a thick burnt malt with some chocolate notes, with some banana, but again a very noticable alcohol. Kind of reminds me of chocolate covered bananas. This was decent but the alcohol is all over the place.

Bottle at level 42 thanks to Leighton. It pours near black with a small beige head. The aroma is sweet, sticky, boozy boost, charred wood, coffee liqueur, toasted brown sugars, dull smoke and roasted malt. The taste is smooth, rich roasted malts, chocolate gateaux, toasted nut, charred wood, tobacco, spice and warming alcohol through the finish. Fullsome body, fine foamy carbonation. Decent stuff.

Bottle split at L42, many thanks to Leighton, 23/01/17. Rich black with a decent tan covering. Nose is chocolate, roast malts, spice, tangy dark fruits, black pepper. Taste comprises earthy cocoa powder, booze tunes, liquorice, dark fruit rinds, peppery spice, charr. Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a boozy finale. Decent enough impy stoot.
