Description
Founded by local home brewers in 2009, Straight to Ale has quickly grown to become one of Alabama’s largest production breweries.

In the summer of 2016 we opened our new 55,000 square foot facility at Campus 805, reclaiming a long vacant Middle School campus on the edge of downtown Huntsville and turning it into a thriving community of breweries, bars, restaurants, and local shops. At this new location, we expanded to include cider and mead production along with distilled spirits (Shelta Cavern Spirits), a scratch made kitchen (Ale’s Kitchen), a pinball arcade and pool room (Ronnie Rayguns).

A bit mild for a Dubbel, BroJo hits all the necessary notes--tea, figs, apple, clove, candy, and yeast--but never gives much more than cursory glances at each. Finishes a bit light and bland with a apple-tinged fade, yet the alcohol remains appreciably hidden. Decent.

Bottle shared in London - sourced via trade. Pour oily black with a creamy, tan head. Gooey chocolate in the nose, moderate roast, earth. Medium to big sweet flavour with hearty dark chocolate, ash, dried berries. Full bodied, oily and chewy with fine carbonation. Sweet finish, lightly warming, with lots more gooey chocolate, some scorched earth, baking cocoa, more dried fruits, berries. Really impressive.

Can. Pours cloudy medium yellow with a tall white head. Good Hefe aroma banana and clove with bready yeast. The flavor is lightly sweet with a bit of bite in the finish from the wheat. Well done.

(Thanks, James! "jbruner") Bottle. A- Butterscotch, oak, cherry, boozy, brown sugar, molasses, raisins, scotch. A- Dark garnet color, clear liquid, beige head. T- Oak, boozy, brown sugar, subtle dark cherry. P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, complex finish. O- What a way to knock off Alabama. A real nice sipper. I feel bad for folks in Alabama that can’t enjoy this on a cold snowy winter day. Reminds me a lot of Founders Backwoods Bastard. Good stuff.

Bitter, resinous hops on top of a light, easy-drinking body. Slight citric, herbal front with a lasting, dry finish. Dank aroma, could use a little more malt for balance.

4 1/2 month old can into an IPA. A: Pale gold hue with a finger of soapy head. Decent retention and clingy lace. Slow bubbles. S: Light pine and sweet citrus smell. Some zest. T: Very bitter but slightly watery taste of pine and tart lemony pith. Faint cracker sweetness finally manages to show. M: Lighter in body even than expected. Bitter and thin at the same time. Nice soft carbonation. O: Had high hopes but can’t say I’m impressed. Not much flavor or feel. Pretty old can though in fairness.
