[2/28/15] Bottle sample at De Garde Brewing in Tillamook. Release and bottle share event. Black with some brown foam. Aroma of bourbon, chocolate, soy sauce. Sweet flavor with chocolate, bourbon and roast. Full-bodied.

22oz bottle pours a clear gold with some clumpy, white head. Nose has mild candy, mild spice, yeast, straw, orange, honeysuckle, a little mild cardboard. Flavor is lightly sweet, candy, honey, mild herbs, mild spice. Bitter, herbal finish.

Bottle shared by someone at De Garde. Pours a pitch black color with a medium beige head. A big sweet nose, huge bourbon and vanilla. Very good beer: medium roast, on the sweet side with vanilla, bourbon, some charred wood. Light dark fruit. Nice.

Bottle. Deep amber/brown body with a short, off-white head. Aroma of caramel, licorice, alcohol, vanilla, whiskey. The flavor is heavily sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes moderately to heavily sweet and lightly bitter. Full body, velvety texture, moderate carbonation. The complexity of the nose hardly has a chance in the flavor with its cloyingly sweet, boozy, alcohol assault on the taste buds. Drain pour for me.

On tap at the Huntsville South Mellow Mushroom. Black color, with just a hint of brownish-red, and practically no head. The aroma is bittersweet chocolate, light coffee, caramel, toast, and a lovely note of cherries and red grapes that’s hard to miss. Very sweet flavor, with a soft bitterness. Heavy body, a little chalky, and thick. Overall, this is a very nice, assertive, but measured, treatment of a really good base stout.

22 cl bottle. Pours pitch black with a small tan head. Aroma is roasted malty and breadish.roasted malty, tarish and roasted dark malty. Dry and slight herbal. Bitter and dry finish. Toasted dark malty into the finish.
