Aromas of chocolate, roasted coffee, Kahlua, burnt toast, honey, sea salt and a hint of citrus. The roasted coffee is very strong in the mouth, together with nuts, toffee and lemon. The palate is luscious at the front and a little watery by the time it gets to your throat.

On tap at Gertrude Hotel, Fitzroy. Great burst of stone fruit on nose. Very full mouth feel. This baby has body! Luscious fruit vs farm flavours. They might talk up the extremeness, but, in fact, it’s surprisingly balanced and re-visitable.

No, I don’t know what "German IPA" means. Growler. Golden amber with a magnificent dense cream head that lasts all the way. Aroma of light bread and some biscuit, mandarins, peach, herbal lemon, some menthol. Fair light bodied. Sweet stone fruit and light bread. Mandarins, some odd herbal notes and a mentholish resiny presence towards the end I found a bit jarring at the fairly bitter finish. I suppose these are German hops and I don’t think they quite go.

Can, as Rust Bucket. Clear reddish amber with an inch of beige head that lasts pretty well. Aroma of toffee and some chocolate, passionfruit, kumquat. More and sharper citrus in the taste, which occludes the chocolate a bit But it manages to be quite richly malty and have a nice whack of Australian hops too.

From a 330ml can on 14/10/2015. Pours a cloudy dark golden with a small head. Has a lovely deep, fruity, hoppy nose, with lots of tropical notes and some light caramel. Take a sip and there’s more caramel, which is quickly overtaken by bucket loads of sweet fruit (peach, apricot, mango), some spicy rye like notes, and masses of resiny, mouth coating hops. The palate if thick and the carbonation soft. This is a super smooth, very flavoursome DIPA, with great mouth feel, and is very hard to fault. Mornington is a consistently good brewer and this is one of their very best.
