Gravity cask at the Pembury Tavern, Hackney, London on 18th November 2009. Solid black with off white head that lasts to halfway down glass. Strong citric taste is prevalent, under which roast malt aromas poke through. Dryish finish; some vanilla notes and a touch of spiciness. Good stout.

Cask-conditioned at the Bag O’Nails, Bristol 19/11/09. Deep amber/orange in colour with a frothy, off-white head. Aroma of marmalade, caramel and earthy hops. Sweetish flavour, with plenty of earthiness, some slightly spicy hops and bitter finish. Good.

Cask conditioned handpull at Dragon Inn, Worcester. Pale gold, thin white head. Chilli beer I’d say. Spicy hop at least. Very spicy on the finish of a decent pale ale.

Cask conditioned handpull at Postal Order, JDW, Worcester. Black, ruby, dark brown edges with thick lasting tan head. Diacetyl and roasted malt aroma. Not my kind of beer at all. Liquourice and diacetyl, I can’t think of worse combi of flavours for me.

10th July 2008. Supposedly a mild but tastes more porterish. Very distinct molasses and toffee. No bitterness. Quality!

[Cask at the Hope Tap, Reading] Treacley brown-black with a yellowy-beige head. Quite sweet at first, with smokey hints, some coffee and lots of cream and crème caramel on a bed of chocolate. Very smooth and silky mouthfeel. Bitterness grows in the finish. The flavours are not as strong as in some stouts, but it’s certainly a smooth, well-balanced example of the genre.

(Cask at Caerpenter’s Arms, Marylebone, London, 8 Aug 2009) Golden colour with frothy, white head. Fruity nose with notes of apricots, peaches and citrus. Fruity taste with citrus, apricots, canned peaches and generous doses of grassy hops in the finish. Light body, fairly dry. Nice and refreshing.
