Cask gravity at the brewery. Golden colour with loose fleeting off white head. Aroma is stale wet grass hops, teabaga and a touch of oxidation. Really not good. Touch of sulphur. Flavour is cara malt, stale malt, mineral. Hop are grassy and earthy dirt. Palate is watery and thin. Pretty poor.

Cask gravity at the brewery. Plastic cup. Heavy hazed yellow straw with a thin fleeting white head. Aroma is big lemon, lavender floral notes and bready grains. Some soapy parfummes. Flavour is vegetal sage leaves lemon and soap. Sage is prominent. Dirty hop bitterness lingers and is too much. Flabby palate under carbonated. I appreciate the inventiveness but it is too heavy handed. Seasons should be pretty subtle.

Cask @ London Drinker Beer Festival 2014. Not my kind of Saison I’m afraid, light but way too spicy with some pot pourri and vegetal elements. A full-on, fresh taste but just not my cup of tea.

Gravity cask at the London Drinker BF 2014. Pours lightly hazy, yellow-gold with a creamy white head. The aroma is dominated by herbs, maybe sage or thyme? The flavor is lightly sweet with plenty more herbal character, mellow pale doughy malts, minimal yeast expression, light hay and grass bitterness. Light bodied with fine carbonation; decent condition. Bitter dry herbs and grass to finish with moderate sweetness, faint lemon rind. Really herbal but not bad.

Sir John Oldcastle Spoons. Cask. Bright clear gold beer, small white head. Palate is smooth and semi dry. Modest carbonation. Fair bit of pale malt here, a slight rawness to it. Light floralness. The hops are pretty light but do bring a little marmalade relief from the pale malt. Light dry finish. It’s not bad but I do agree with Theydon Bois here - if you are going to brew beers like this you might want to re brand as ’Malt Stuff’!

Bottle at home in London - picked up at Utobeer. Pours mostly clear gold with a flimsy white head that settles into a creamy film. The aroma holds pale bread, a bit of tangy citrus, grains, leaves. Light-medium sweet flavor with grainy bread, some straight sugars, mild husky grain and leafy bitterness, hints of caramel, subtle orange citrus. Maybe a little watery. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Sweet finish, fairly basic, with more grainy bread, mild leafy bitterness, ripe citrus fruits. A bit simple overall but, for an entry-level bitter, not bad.

Cask gravity at Firkin Ale House Folkestone. Clear gold thin white head. Quite perfumed finish. Little bit of nettle on the aroma and a little tight on the carbonation. Ok.

Bottle from Jacks, Goring-on-Thames, Oxon, Tuesday 21st January 2014 consumed in Isobels camper at Bath Marina Campsite, Bath, Friday 24th January 2014 Pours orange/amber hazy with white head almost glowing. Pithy hoppiness a bit dry, felt a bit shallow at first but I think that was coz’ I drank it soon after the Dark Side of The Moo’, the roastiness of that beer soon clears from my palate and falls away to see this beer which is v.good btw, providing a pleasant solid, pithy, hoppy, citrus rush. A good robust thrusty bitterness, lovely. This is a beer that just gets better as you sup. A7 A4 T8 P4 Ov15 3.8
