Description
Housed beneath The Rat and Ratchet and since the very first brew of Lab Rat in 2011, head brewer, Paul Spencer and brewer Robin Moss, have created rodent themed beers to critical acclaim. Our beers are distinctive, extreme, generally intensely hopped and anything but average, experimenting with a range of different beer styles, strengths and ingredients. Rat beer is now infecting all four corners of the UK faster than the Black Death, turning a local infestation into a national plague. White Rat in particular has emerged as the flagship beer and now sits within the Ossett core range.

Aged for 9 months in American Cabernet Sauvignon wine casks. Light haze on this deep reddish amber beer, small pale tan head. Smooth palate, slightly soft, decent fine carbonation. Smooth malts, a decent creamy sweetness, slightly tangy caramel and toffee. Good winey tang, getting Port Wine like, some sherry and Madeira too boot. Light spice and rich ripe fruits. A rich fruity bitter finish. Unusual barleywine and purdy darn rich and drinkable.

Bradford Beer Festival 2020. Black-brown with an off-white head. It's heavy tasting with its alcohol content, but roasted malts are available in both aroma and taste.

Half-pint, well kept cask ale at Dispensary. Shared with Finn. Clear amber body, spotty lacing, firm white head. Dusty hops and bread on the nose, promising. Bread-fruity flavours, hints of caramel. Bittersweet ending. Pretty good. (Liverpool 27.01.2020).
