Keg at the Mermaid, Porth, Cornwall on 29/5/2015. Dark and cloudy yellow with a small white head (head? on a cider? wtf?). Baked apple juice with a little straw and garden fence. Medium-dry with just a hint of tartness, just a little roughness round the edges. Quite easy drinking though. Ok cider overall.

500ml bottle from local shop. Deep golden amber colour, white foam head that dissipates away and aroma of juicy apple, toffee, playdough, vanilla, cinnamon. Taste is sweet mulled apple with toffee, spice & cream soda notes. Syrupy mouthfeel, medium bodied, medium carbonation, lingering sweet toffee at the finish. OK.

500ml bottle from local shop, chilled. Pours cloudy pale yellow with a short-lived white foam head. Aroma is fragrant lemon, lemonade. Taste is sweet, lemony, sugary, with only a faintest hint of pear and apple cider. Medium bodied, high carbonation, lingering sweet finish. Artificial lemony pop, OK .

Bottle from Tesco and drunk at home. Rating 14600. Clear gold disappearing white bubbles to no head. Fragrant flowery apple blossom apple aroma. It has some dryness especially on the finish. Some interesting apple fruit, some woodiness. Some sweetness but not overly sweet. ABV is hidden well. It’s a decent bottled cider. Some dryness, some wood, some ok apple fruit. Fine.

500ml bottle from Asda - Obviously a gimmick. Fluorescent orange pour with a short last white fizz. Heavily carbonated spits aroma of sour apples with a hint of wood smoke. Taste is not as sickly sweet as I’d feared, with a smoked finish at the end. I’ve had much worse... and as far as apple cider goes, it ain’t that bad.

On tap the the Black Cat, Bedminster, Bristol 14/4/2015. Pale gold, fizzy cider. Dryish and industrial with not much of a finish. Bristol is the place to come and drink this, preferably in a can, although I wouldn’t try too hard to track it down.

Bottle from B&M, Halifax. A clear, very pale golden colour with a small carbonation. The tequila has quite a harsh kick to begin with but does settle down, however it’s not the best or most obvious fusion of drink styles and is certainly an acquired taste. The tequila is dominant in both aroma and taste with cider flavours hardly apparent.

500ml bottle. Clear amber gold colour, short lived white foam head and aroma of tart apple, apple skins, woody oak. Flavour is tangy juicy apple, apple skin, wood, vanilla, light barnyard, some tannins. Slightly oily mouthfeel, medium bodied, low carbonation, dry tannic finish. Quite drinkable.
