Slightly hazy copper and bright bronze coloured body with a fairly thin, fast-dying tan head, only a centimetre tall. Aroma of rich malt and metals, some alcohol and a pungent kick of astringent notes with no real hops noticeable and only a dash of fruits - not much in here aside from the alcohol and rich malts. Medium-bodied; Very strong malty flavour with a lot of cardboard, alcohol, bitterness and pungency from some deeper fruits like apricots and nectarines, but some sweetness is around at least near the end to break the bitterness. Aftertaste is deep and assertive with alcohol and malt the strongest flavours. Overall, a decent IPA at best with some moderate bitterness, but not from the hops - from the malt and alcohol, and more malt than expected, but a decent beer. Definitely not worth picking up when there are other options, especially in the style. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Grape Vine in Form Mill, South Carolina on 21-August-2017 after watching the Eclipse for US$1,70 sampled at home in Washington on 31-August-2017, just ten days later.

Refrigerated 12 oz. brown bottle poured into a glass. Hazy pale yellow with medium white head. Aroma is smoke, medium body, medium carbonation, and little lacing. Taste is smoke, herbal hops, and some blueberry. The flavors don't meld for me.

Bottle from Publix Supermarket, Lexington, South Carolina. Almost black with a bubbly off-white head. Has an initial dark malt lager taste with roasted malts developing in its aftertaste that linger. Its nose is closer to the former. There’s a sweetness about the ale too.

Bottle from Publix Supermarket, Lexington, South Carolina. Dark clear amber with a small carbonation and a very thin head. Strongish, with this brew at 5.8%, but a robust light fruitiness is also evident. Hops too.

Very macro for a micro, pouring out like a fizzy yellow lager with no head or lace. Nose is mostly cereal grain, some yeast. Taste hits a very straightforward lager note, apple esters and grainy malts creating a sweetness that the minimal hopping never offsets. Finishes semisweet and bready, in dire need of a Noble punch. Basic macro texture. Skip it.

One of the most unpleasant beers I’ve ever come across. Massive fake blueberry flavor mixed with overbearing smokiness and a wildly out-of-whack bitter finish. Mouthfeel is strangely greasy and unpleasant, and the foam comes closer to soap bubbles than beer suds. Can’t get the smoke off my palate. Awful. Absolutely awful.

Decent IPA, super-mellow with a deep, toasty biscuit malt base topped by modest citric hops and a easygoing, mildly bitter finish. Sweeter than expected, and the floral notes outweigh any strong Citra accents, but easy to drink and not without its charm.

"Inspired by Mexican street corn" is a bit of a suspect phrase when found in a beer description, but, hey, gotta give Palmetto credit for creative inspiration. Follow-through is lacking, however; the flavors are there, but none of the elements come through enough to register as more than a fleeting accent. Roasty mocha notes form the backbone of the beer, while the lime makes a faint appearance on the finish. Cayenne helps add some personality to the fade, but it all comes across too delicate to leave a lasting impression. Mostly you get a weak black lager way too mellow to conjure up the amazing punch of a plate of elotes.

Not a bad wit, dry with just the right amount of yeast, spiced but with appreciable restraint. Pours a hazy gold with a modest white head and little lacing. Nose is grass and wheat with a hint of clove and coriander. Taste starts with grass and moderate floral notes, then develops a subtle banana-clove undertone against a bready, crisp middle. Finishes with slight citrus and spice, soapy but in a good way, and the fade grows mildly sweet and yeasty. Pretty darn drinkable, especially as summer in Charleston starts to ramp up.
