Description
In 2001 helped by his family, John Mills established the Tower Brewery, continuing in the long tradition of brewing in Burton on Trent.

IMG_0063-300x293Over a period of nine months and with a lot of hard work, John and his father Geoffrey converted the handsome water tower, in which the brewery is now based.

Steeped in brewing history and known as Walsitch Maltings, the tower was built in the 1870s by Thomas Salt & Co Ltd., and later in 1927 owned by Burton brewers Bass & Co.

With the conversion finished and the building returned to its former heritage, production began on 10th April 2001.

Bottle from B&M, Rochdale. Deeper amber coloured with next to no head. Fairly ordinary but palatable with its lowish strength, and has a malty-sweet character.

50cl bottle from B&M, Reading. A bright golden amber pour with a ring of white head and lively carbonation; aroma of stewed malts; sweet carmael malt taste; and nothing in the way of any finish. Nothing to recommend about this.

(Bottle) Clear amber brown with little head. Light malt with seaweed vege notes. Light body with medium carbonation. Good malt with some nice subtle vege and flinty slightly smokey notes. Good beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

500ml bottle from the bargain bin of Beers of Europe. Pours clear gold, no head. Malty, burnt toffee aromas, herbal hops. Taste is sweet, more burnt toffee. Thin texture, astringent finish. Quite similar to Marstons stuff.

Bottle from Aldi as part of budget month. Nose is heavy on the butterscotch, very reminiscent of Worther’s Originals, slight metallic note which grows as it breaths. Taste is primarily of carbonated water, nondescript herbal hops, slight malt, metallic note, slight mineral quality. Edit: Having read others reviews below the comment describing it as Alca Seltzer is spot on. This is a hard beer to describes, it tastes of almost nothing but the metallic carbonation. It’s not horribly unpleasant, it just has almost no flavour. Very odd indeed. I should note however that it has a beautiful, traditional label.

500ml bottle: BBD 31 Jul 15. Drank at home on 18 Nov 14. Bronze hue to the amber body and clear look, the head never got going, just a collar from the start. Weak malt-ish nose, weak malt-ish taste. Bland, uninteresting and frankly boring. I know it is a low alcohol Bitter, but even so it lacked any character, depth of flavour or redeeming features.

500ml bottle from Home Bargains - Pale brown colour. Not particularly aromatic although there’s a slight Burtonised whiff. A simple bitter.

Clear 500ml bottle poured at home into an Abbot Ale glass tankard on 30th June 2014. Golden, clear body with a good, full white crown of foam on top. Crisp, dry finish with a hop bitter feel throughout. The aroma is subdued, some mild hoppiness with a citrus bent as the beer warmed. Better than OK, in fact it was a lot better than I thought it would be.
