Description
After a great reception from his hobby as an enthusiastic amateur brewer, Toby Mackenzie and his wife Caroline decided to expand and go full time establishing the award winning Red Willow brewery in 2010. Their aim was to make the types of beer that they like - full of flavour yet easy to drink. Red Willow now offer a range of beers that can be found in many local pubs and shops in cask

Cask @ The Caley, Edinburgh 150612
Rich amber orange, clear, bit of a frothy head
Aroma - Rich caramel orangey malts, juicy malts, far less hops on the nose than the taste
Taste - Sweet fruity malts, candy sugars, barley sugar, bit of golden syrup, scorched sugars, bit too much orangey sweet malts for me, citrus hops, some spicy notes, unusual bitter spicy notes in there, do like it the more you have
Palate - soft carb, med body, rather viscous and oily. Finish - bitter lingering hoppy....long linger
Overall - A good IPA but a bit sweet

Light haze on this amber beer. Tidy white head. Light dry palate. Mild mellow citrus hops. Fairly dry finish, vaguely woody. Okay but a bit dry and mellow.

Cask at CBC, London. Pours pale yellow with a fine, white foam head. Ripe citrus nose. Medium sweet flavor with some lemon, fructose, mango, moderate straw bitterness and lemon rind. Light in body with fine carbonation. Sticky sweet finish with some doughy, biscuity malts, lots of juicy citrus, some mild grass and straw. Sweet but highly drinkable.

On tap @ the Caley Sample Room tap takeover. Pours a charcoal/black colour with a thin fawn head. The nose is biscuity, smokey and there is a liquorice note. There is more of the same on the taste. The palate has a medium body and a creamy texture with a clean but balanced finish. Overall, best beer I’ve tried from Redwillow.

On tap @ the Caley Sample Room for Redwillow tap takeover. Pours opaque black with a thin creamy head with a fawn middle to it. The nose has liquorice and chocolate. The taste has more liquorice and dark chocolate with just a hint of cream, but not much. The palate is medium bodied and texture with a slightly too astringent finish. Overall, this seems like a dry stout in style to me. It’s good but a little too astringent, I think.

On tap @ the Caley Sample Room. Pours golden with a decent head. The nose has toffee and biscuits. More toffee and biscuits with perhaps a little spice on the taste. The palate is medium bodied and textured with a dry finish and reasonably balanced. Overall, a solid ale.

On tap @ the Caley Sample Room. Pours golden with a proportionate head. The nose has overripe fruit, and it is sweaty in fact. There is more of the same on the taste - some people call it passion fruit I still think it’s fruit. However, the palate has balance with a medium body and texture with just the right finish. Overall, solid apart from the sweat. .

On tap @ the Caley Sample Room Redwillow tap takeover. Pours golden with a proportionate head. The nose is mostly of pine but with a hint of citrus. The taste is similar with more pronounced grapefruit than the pine note. The palate is medium in texture and structure with a dry almost astringent finish. Overall, a decent pale ale, though a little too dry for me.
