Bottle split down the Kernel thanks to Niall73, 31/05/14. Black with a tan swirl that also hugs the rim and stays for the show. Nose is roasted malt, chocolate cake, subtle bourbon tones, toffee fudge, light spice, mineral waftings. Taste comprises rich chocolate, nuanced bourbon, rich roast, light spice, dark fruit rinds, light tar. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Solid BA effort, pretty subtle stuff and an easy drinker, another winner from Allendale.

On cask at the Guildford. Appearance - not actually black but more of a toffee brown. Thin fawn head. Nose - hazelnuts and toffee. Taste - loads more nuts bit now getting into milk chocolate. Palate - light to medium bodied with a creamy texture and a long elegant finish. Overall - I think this actually sits in between a porter and a brown ale.

On cask at the Guildford. Appearance - golden with a proportionate head. Nose - lemon, pale malt and flowers. Possibly getting into lemon custard. Taste - lemon curd with lots of resin. Palate - medium bodied with a creamy texture and a long dry finish. Overall - not as complex as some of their others but yeah could scoop a few.

Palate - medium bodied with a thick tangy texture and a finish that is mostly dry. Overall - a tasty beer but not as drinkable as some of their others.

Cask (The Central, Gatehead) - Very dark brown with some orangey tinges. Liquorice, fudge, pine and some soapy hops in the aroma. Roasted malt, coffee, soapy hops and liquorice feature in the taste. A tasty beer, but I am not getting much of the Belgian character.
