Description
OCB has been hitting, hopping and dosing brews with creativity since acid-washed jeans were hip β throwing a bit of kind into the kettle whenever possible. Look for our hop-soaked ales and delicious lagers around New England and the mid-Atlantic.

Clear orange to chestnut; orange-yellowish head, nearly gone in secs. Spicey nose, dark malts, even molasses. Bit empty, molasses and some wood, but sweetish. Slightly syrupy MF, ends a bit empty all the same. Certainly not a bad beer - in this style itβs very hard to get more going up convincingly. With roasted meat, as Garrett O. suggests.

Muzzlehatch warned me about this one, but I didnt listen. Fizzy, off-white head atop a maize-golden body, poor retention, no lacing, filtered, plentiful bubbles in the liquid.
Cocoa powder dryness rises up with dry, stale graham crackers, vanilla that smells more like a biproduct of short lagering times than true vanilla, and a bit of grainy, dry, attenuated maltiness. Flavor is heavily dry, overattenuated, with a filtered texture that seems at odds with the heavily drying cacao, vanilla and cinnamon. Really it just tastes like sucking on a cinnamon stick, with soggy, hay-like hops and obnoxious overcarbonation not so much too much carbonation, but just really large bubbles). Watery, bland, no malt depth whatsoever. I left the bottle out overnight to see what happened. The next day it was decidedly sweeter, without all of the carbonation to break up the texture, and a light chocolate syrup-like flavor could be discerned, but the beer character was few and far between. Didnβt catch the alcohol though. I think they would have had better results by just using chocolate. Iβm no fan of sweet beers, but this one is just painfully dry.

About two fingers of off-white head forms, initially, fluffy, with compact bubbles comprising it. The body is a light honey-amber with some modest auburn tinges. Head eventually recedes to cover, with minimal lace in small blotches. Beer is not crystal clear, but still fairly filtered.
The nose is very weak. Not flawed or off, just extremely dull. Light citrus fruits (oranges, lemon zest) and a leafy, bordering on vegetal, at first, floral-like note. Some sticky pale malt sugars add a bit of sweetness, while caramelized sugars and toasted malt can be glimpsed, adding very little, overall, in such small proportions. Warming allows more citrus and light grass to emerge, with more sweet malts becoming expressive. Some light candied orange notes, but itβs still far from invigorating.
The flavor, upon first sip, is earthy, crunchy and overly toasted, with syrupy caramel sugars nearly overwhelming the straightforward cascade and centennial display. Heavy oranges (heavy in ratio, not really heavy in flavor) and moderate floral notes do provide enough flavor and as it warms, a modest helping of bitterness. Malt is crystally, yet backed by enough round, sweet caramel and pale malt sugars so as to not get too dry or hard. Carbonation is very low, probably too low for the style, leading to too much malt dominance and too syrupy a texture. Some fruitiness interjects as it finishes (peach and papaya). Solidly made, and hits most of the marks, but certainly does nothing extraordinary for the style. I didnt find the alcohol to be a problem upon warming. Needs a boost in both malt and hop complexity.

I have not been much impressed with this brewer. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a ruby chestnut color with a large tan head. The aroma is strong fruity and floral hops with a vaguely spicy undertone. The flavor is bitter and a bit medicinal with strong floral hops and light dry fruity flavors underneath. The finish is dry and vaguely medicinal. Sadly for a beer whoβs aroma and appearance offered such promise this beer just fails to deliver.

Pours a deep garnet into a pint. Persistent 1/4 inch-, medium-sized bubbles. Very light aroma -- if carbonation has a smell, this is it. Some fruit notes. Initial big malt flavors quickly turn bitter and then metalic -- very bizarre turn of events. Palate goes fizzy to flat very fast.

12oz bottle-pours a full, rocky offwhite head with clear copper color. Aroma is hops, malt, caramel. Taste is initially creamy malt. Following is a slightly edgy, bitter hop which is nice. Although the bitterness carries too long in the aftertaste too. Medium body. Dated 11/28/05, best by or bottled on??
