Lightly hazed blonde with a white head. Barely any aroma. Nice crisp malt with faint blueberry notes. Medium bodied. Boring. Mondiale 2005.

Bottled 9/29/05, Lot #1792. Last of 3 Wolavers from Wild Oats, Hinsdale, IL. Nice enough, but not close to what we expect from an IPA. Well, it pours out a light brown with orange tinge, not quite to style. Thin clingy white head. Smell is a bit on the oxidized side. Lots of pinprick bubbles climbing up and down the glass. Malts are there, but some kind of impression of chlorine gets in the way. Hops are there, too, but not the big northwestern hops we’ve come to expect. Would be all right as a "beer," but just a bot substandard as an IPA.

Bottled on 9/28/05, Batch #1790. Pours with a lightly sour whiff. Guess that’s where the cherry is supposed to come in. Pour is a straight brown, again, very clear for a beer with organic pretensions (guess it has to be heavily filtered if it’s not pasteurized). This is a basic session beer, and it plays that part pretty well. A bit of tartness over some sweet roasty malts, even a bit of peat. Crisp and bubbly, sweet and calming. Picked up at Wild Oat in Hinsdale, IL.

Bottle, "Bottled on 10/17/05, Lot #1785" If first impressions mean anything, this is a good one, since when I twist the top, I immediately get a happy, beery and hoppy smell. Pours a clean copper brown; surprised to find no floaties (if it’s not pasteurized, it must be heavily fined or filtered), in fact, it’s very clean with just a few streams of bubbles in the glass, and a thin ale head at the top. Malts are pretty crisp, kind of in the range of a Vienna, with a bit of caramel roast and the idea of cherries. The hop choices give it more of a German character than the usual Centennial/Cascade mix of most APAs, but there is a very good dose of Hallertauer in here. A little lace on the glass. Finishes very clean, no conditioning yeast in the bottle. A good "medium" beer, but in the end, perhaps a bit forgettable. It’s a gotta be hard to stand out in the same category as Alpha King. Found the Wolavers at the Wild Oats store in Westmont, IL.

12 oz. bottle, Bottle date 6/27/05, Lot #1739. Pours a lovely deep brown with a brown head. Keen smell of deep coffee roast malt. This is a good example of one of my favorite styles. Malt aplenty, and a pick of hops that throws in a bit more bitter than is standard. Dark roast malts give it a good impression of dryness. A little light in the expected coffee and chocolate taste after smelling it, but it’s still another great find. Picked it up at the Wild Oats store in Hinsdale, IL

Paid $1.20 for a 12-oz single bottle. Pours cloudy amber brown with no head. I mean none. Thin aroma of malt and dishsoap (no, there’s no residue from my glass, because my glass has not been washed with soap in quite a long time). Bland flavor. Nutbrown like with a strange bitter lingering finish that isn’t all that pleasant. Ehh, why a plain amber for a winter seasonal anyway?

This is my first beer from this company. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer pours a caramel color with a small light tan head. The aroma is light but sweet and malty. The flavor is light malts with a hint of nut. Not a whole lot of flavor to this one.

I am not a big fan of this brewer. This one I have had only once. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer pours a clear chestnut color with a medium sized light tan head. The aroma is sour malts with a hint of chocolate. The flavor is sour tang and lightly roasty malts. The finish is tangy with a hint of chocolate.

Heavy burnt popcorn aroma. Black, with a short but lacing cream colored head. Flavor is more popcorn, coffee, a little chocolate, and minimal dark cherry. Fairly heavy.

Pour is a nice orange with no real head. Nice aroma of hops are the first thing you nothing. Flavor is a mix of hops and a certain spice i can’t name but can detect. Very tasty and pleasing to all the sences. Very refreshing and a good example of the style.
