Description
Like many people in the Revolutionary period, Sam Adams, one of the original revolutionaries and the cousin of American President John Adams, brewed beer and knew a thing or two about it.

Since 2006 as All Gates and 2017 as Wigan Brewhouse we have been brewing fine craft beers in the heart of Wigan, in a fully restored 19th Century Grade II-listed, tower brewery, in the process re-establishing brewing in the town centre after a near forty year absence, following the closure of Moorfield’s Brewery in the 1970’s.

Combining heritage with imagination we put true Northern soul into our award-winning beers to bring you an exciting range of beers, whenever inspiration bites. However one thing our ales have in common is they are part of an outstanding range of modern beers, but built on cask ale tradition. To this tradition we have added aromatic hops from the New World. This enables us to produce hop-forward beers but retaining balance and subtlety; beers with true Northern soul.

Cask stillage at the Birmingham CAMRA festival 2014. Poured a crystal clear straw colour with a bubbly white head. The aroma is grassy hop. The flavour is moderate bitter with a huge Citra grass palate and a long bitter finish. Light bodied with soft carbonation. A massive hop fest. This is as good as the excellent Oakham Citra.

Cask @ Soup Kitchen, Manchester. Cloudy and very dark, unclear but not black. Has an off-white creamy head. The plum is very prominent in its nose and taste, no other characteristic is dominant. Fairly light texture and feels good in the palate.

How: Cask.
Where: GBBF 2014.
Appearance: Hazy golden colour with a white head.
Aroma: Malt, bad vegetables, just bad unpleasant.
Body: Light body, low carbonation.
Flavour: Fruit maybe, perhaps some citrus, but overall just bad.
Comment: Either they made something wrong, which I doubt since others would have noticed a miss brew, or this one is just bad.
