Description
We’ve always relied on our wits to give us an edge. We tried things others wouldn’t and refused to let being smaller keep us from thinking big. To become masters of our craft, we had to be pretty darned crafty. This spirit is at the heart of everything we do—and in every drop we brew.

Sampled at the C''est What Festival of Small Breweries 2002. Copper colour; light crystal malt aroma w/ some berry notes. Light caramelliness, vaguely dry in the finish with more caramel. If this rating sounds similar to many others I''ve written, it''s no surprise. There are a lot of uncreative brewers kicking about.

I go to Radek''s place and he breaks out the Force 10. I go to Kimchee''s place and he cracks a forty of Bull Max. Last bloody time I visit a Ratebeerian! (For who want to know, this is actually a smoothish example of the style - plenty of cidery off flavours still but it seemed pretty easy going and any self-respecting malt liquor fan could easily finish a forty or two).

I used to think this bland, vaguely malty amber ale was good English beer. Used to.

Light gold colour. Not a whole lot of aroma, just a sort of pale malt/grainy thing. Not a bad grainy, mind you, just a whole grain, crunchy malt I guess is what I’m trying to say. It’s fairly smooth, with an even balance between light pale malt and light fruity hops. Carbo is low, too. Sweetish - certainly not a pilsner - and lacks the distinct hop aroma that it had when I first tasted it...what, ten years ago now? I’d view it as a Stella competitor - a good pale lager but still a pale lager.

’Son, what do you want to be when you grow up?’
’I want to be a dunkel, dad.’
’Well, son, you’ve got a lot of growing up to do.’

One of those beers that I used to like when I didn't know any better but now I just can't get into it at all.
