Description
United Dutch Breweries in Breda was created when the Belgian Interbrew closed the Breda Oranjeboom brewery in 2004, which it had taken over in 1995. Oranjeboom's export department carried out a management buy-out and continued independently with Oranjeboom's brand portfolio, which was acquired from Interbrew. The beers are not brewed anymore in Breda but elsewhere.

Dark brown colour. The aroma hints at a sweetish drink with hints of cheap coffee. Soft, but also a bit thin. The flavour is relatively light, balanced between wort and coffee. Drinkable brew.

Being the curious beer masochist I am, having that urge to pick up random beers at the supermarket I don’t recognize, Red Mex was on the lower shelf at a smaller supermarket somewhere in Paris. There are in fact quite a few of these "tequila" flavoured beers floating around the French supermarkets, something I’ll never quite understand as to their popularity. Chilled heavily before drinking, it poured with small lager-head and a light yellow that is probably supposed to remind you of a Corona. The aroma is sugar, lemon, old boot leather, fermented grass. The taste was a dry mix of beer and the sugariness was surprisingly subdued. Dry finish, but there was also a weird lemon-lime aftertaste. This is in fact probably a better specimen for the tequila-beer thing but it’s still not something I’d drink again.
