Description
On August 28, 1865 the Ganter brewery was founded by Ludwig Ganter. In 1877 the Ganter brewery bought the "Alte Ölmühle" area far from the city. Between Dreisam and Schwarzwaldstrasse the production facilities and the stately villa were built. A specially constructed deep well provides the basis for excellent beer to this day: pure, crystal clear spring water from the Black Forest. In 2010-2012 the family invests in the most modern technical equipment. With a clear regional awareness and the desire to hand over the brewery to the 5th generation as an independent family business.

Pours a very hazy, quite opaque golden. Didn't get much head for a weizen (the glass it was poured in wasn't 100% proper though), ok retention, not much lacing. Average to slightly below average intensity in the aroma: yeasty, soft/white bread base, a healty amount of spiciness (can clearly detect just clove), banana. Ok aroma, very simple. Taste notes follow the aroma quite closely, perhaps with a bit of vanilla showing up. Mandatorily sweet, as usually cut/balanced by a hint of sourness, though the overall balance felt a bit sweeter than the average weizen. As for the aroma, so-so taste intensity. Light to medium bodied, average carbonation (less carbonated than usual per style); felt easily drinkable and slick, slightly silky. Overall: nothing more than averagely good, actually felt a bit too average.

It is the typical classical German lager, a bit metalic, malty, bready, a bit watery, some hop, yellow and gold body, average, 03.04.17, tasting it at Bonfol and buying it at Freiburg am Breisgau.

In my opinion, it is a decent beer for the style, perfect when you are thirsty, a bit metalic, malt, hop, a bit watery, classical, 11.03.17, serving me at Freiburg, in our rented flat, buying it at one Edeka.

0.33 l bottle from 'EDEKA Schwörer' (Endingen), best before March 2026. Slightly hazy, golden with a thin, frothy, slowly diminishing, white head. Sweetish, a bit fruity-floral aroma of grains, straw and hints of lemon peel. Slightly sweet, moderately bitter, malty, a bit fruity-floral taste of grains, straw, some honey and traces of lemon peel, followed by a short, moderately bitter finish. Medium body, smooth and slightly effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Pleasant brew, fairly quaffable. Much better than the filtered Pils.

For the style, it is a nice beer, it sounds a bit like an achel blonde, malty and there is a really pleasant touch of honey at the final, 12.04.17, purchased this beer, during one of my trip, in Freiburg am Breisgau, tasting it at Lausanne, Prélaz.
