Description
In late 2013, J.C. Hill got a call from his father, John, asking if he’d like to open a brewery restaurant in Monterey. The opportunity to collaborate on a project with his father and move home to Northern California to start a family with his wife, Melanie, could not be ignored and thus he moved. Located in a historically registered building in Old Monterey, this is our original location that opened in 2014. The Alvarado Street Brewery & Grill serves locally sourced, gastropub-influenced fare built around it's beers that are produced on-site.

In April of 2016 our Salinas Production Brewery & taproom opened to supplement house offerings at our downtown Monterey pub, and allow us to supply draft beer to quality minded local establishments.

Poured from a 16 oz can dated September 28, 2023. Aroma is rather fruity with lots of mango, lychee and passion fruit. Lighter notes of stone fruit, tropical citrus and pineapple. Light cracker malt notes and light alcohol notes. Pours a hazy, somewhat dull, golden straw color with a medium large, thick, pillowy, white head that recedes slowly to a small film that lingers. Fairly high amount of lacing and small legs. Flavor is somewhat sweet with light cracker malt notes. Moderately strong bitterness and light alcohol notes. Nice fruity hop notes with lots of passion fruit, mango, lychee and stone fruit. Lighter notes of tropical citrus and pineapple. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a solid hazy DIPA. Nice fruity hop notes in the aroma and flavor. Good sweetness that accentuates the hop fruitiness and hides the alcohol, but not over the top. Not overly bitter, but enough to carry into the finish.

Can from Corti Bros. Pours hazy orange tinged gold with a large foamy white head. Aroma has lots of lime and some grapefruit pith. Med body. Flavor is the aroma with some light agave notes. Not dry, but tart enough to offset the sweetness. So the flavor is actually tart juicy.

Can. Pours clear golden yellow, medium white head, nice lacing. Aroma is dank, pot, tropical fruit, passionfruit, armpits. Flavor is light sweet, light plus bitter. Juicy, dank, tropical. No burn and a clean finish. Medium body. This is a shining example of an evolved WC IPA. Clean, clear, bitterness present but not in a race to kill the tastebuds. Restrained sweetness. Hop expression dominates. Kudos.

Poured from a 16 oz can dated September 07, 2023. Aroma is hoppy with bright fruitiness. Quite a bite of white wine tropical fruit notes including passion fruit and guava with hints of stone fruit. Very light citrus notes. Light cracker malt notes and hints of alcohol. Pours a fairly clear, pale, golden color with a medium sized, fairly thick, fluffy, white head that recedes quickly to a small film that lingers. Light lacing and small legs. Flavor is slightly sweet with light cracker malt notes. Moderately high bitterness and light alcohol notes. Like the aroma, the flavor has bright white wine fruity hop notes. Lots of passion fruit, guava, and stone fruit with lighter lime, kiwi and grape notes. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a solid IPA. Really interesting hop character with a strong white wine note. Unlike a pure nelson sauvin hop where it has a ton of fruit notes you find in white wine, this beer has a hop character that actually smells and tastes like white wine. Light malt profile and balanced bitterness and alcohol notes.
