Description
In late 2013, J.C. Hill got a call from his father, John, asking if he’d like to open a brewery restaurant in Monterey. The opportunity to collaborate on a project with his father and move home to Northern California to start a family with his wife, Melanie, could not be ignored and thus he moved. Located in a historically registered building in Old Monterey, this is our original location that opened in 2014. The Alvarado Street Brewery & Grill serves locally sourced, gastropub-influenced fare built around it's beers that are produced on-site.

In April of 2016 our Salinas Production Brewery & taproom opened to supplement house offerings at our downtown Monterey pub, and allow us to supply draft beer to quality minded local establishments.

On nitro at Ale Arsenal. The aroma and taste really follow the title here, and the nitro gives a pleasant well-roundedness to the "cookie" aspects of this beer. Overt cocoa powder on the flavor.

16 ounce can. It says 5% ABV on the can, which is noticeably lower than what it’s listed at... It pours a lightly hazed orange color with some pinkish hues and a disappearing off white head. The aroma is intense with fresh squeezed orange and tangerine. Some citrus peel. The guava and passionfruit have to be searched for to be found, but are there. Potently juicy on the nose. The flavor is pretty much the same. Massive tangerine and orange juice. I get more of the guava than passionfruit, but the orange really takes center stage. Light on the palate, but not watery at all. There’s a hint of natural fruity sweetness that off sets the strong tartness nicely. Not really any funk here. This one is all about the intense fruit character and light, refreshing, spritzy body. Mouthwatering. A great summer cooler.

Tap. Pours lightly hazy butterscotch, medium off white head, dissipates slowly, nice lacing. Aroma of pot, melon, guava, grapefruit, more pot. Flavor is light sweet, light bitter, nice balance without any harshness. Tastes like the juice of some mythical tropical cannabis passionfruit melon, and that is a good thing. Medium body, creamy mouthfeel. Solid beer.

Tap. Pours hazy hot pink, medium off white head, decent lacing. Aroma is kind of dry boysenberry. Flavor is light tart, fruity, light residual sweetness, hella boysenberries. If you want to know what they taste like, this is your beer. Medium body. Pretty simple, but solid. No Brett character to speak of.

On tap at Caps & Taps. It pours a clear yellow color with a white head. The aroma has pale malt, corn, hints of earthy noble hops. The flavor has hints of citrus and earthy hop bitterness, very pale crackery malts and lightly sulfury lager yeast. More flavor than a macro and about as clean. Decent.
