Bottled. Hazy nutbrown colour, mediumsized off-white head. Aroma is quite yeasty, nutty as well as some spices and fruits. Flavour is nutty, yeasty, quite fruity and wooden. Without yeast it’s very much stingier and sweeter. Better with the yeast in.

Bottle. Blackish beer with reddish highlights and a brown head. Malty, light roasty, light boozy aroma with some chocolate. Chocolate, roast flavor with sweet malt and big alcohol notes. Medium-plus bodied. Lingering sweet malt, roast, big alcohol.

$9.49 for a 16.9oz bottle...ouch. That being said, this beer is quite excellent. Fresh hop fragrance. Bitter mouthfeel, with a solid malt backbone. Generously hopped. Really well balanced beer, with some nice caramel malt tastes to even it out. Top notch stuff.

RB#4600: 37.5 cL bottle. Pours pitch black with a creamy dense chocolate brown head. Fruity and dense roasted malt aroma. Bite from alcohol in the eyes. Sweet and fruity flavour with a heavy roasted malt flavour following. Impressive sweet flavour with cane sugar and somewhat else - kind of off. Roasted barley acidic dense flavour in addition. Sweet and fruity into the finish with a distinct burning feel. Utterly unbalanced. Has all the ingredienses yet not in a nice blend. :( I did enjoy the experience - although this is tough one. Also as Extra Stron 18 at Plan B, 28. december 2009. Sweet and more smooth malt flavoured, sweet - but not dextrose like.

Pours with a small, foamy, off-white head covering a deep red-brown body. Good retention from the small head. Aroma of toffee, figs, raisins, congac, brown sugar, other alcohols, champagne, chocolate and even some coconut. Taste is a tad sour then strong alcohol and pitted fruits. The finish starts a bit astringent, then is a bit nutty and even smokey. The taste lasts in your mouth for a while. Very creamy and mouthcoating body with light bubbles. 12% is obvious in the taste.

Bottle. Average size, off-white head that disappears quickly. Clear, medium amber body. Floral aroma with notes of grain and citrus, especially grapefruit. Hint of caramel. The flavor is lightly sweet and moderately to heavily bitter and lightly acidic. Medium body with a smooth texture and lively carbonation. The balance leans heavily toward the bitter leaving little room for anything else. Not much finesse in this beer. Which makes the price of this beer very steep, indeed. Not a good buy.

Hazy deep brown coloured body with a nice frothy tan head. Aroma of super strong potent raisins, pit fruits and malt, with a bit of hops up top. Full-bodied; Strong malty flavour with potent alcohol and malt, a touch of yeast and pit fruits coming in with some spice as well. Aftertaste shows a good malt flavour and a small bit of hops as well. Overall, a good barley wine, but definitely nothing special - good to try though! I sampled this 37.5 cL split bottle purchased from Plumpjack Wines in San Francisco (Mission), California on 24-May-2008.

It took several hours before I understood name of this beer :) Clear amber color, small off-white head. Bready, ryeish, hoppy aroma with some barnyardish notes. (I actually don’t know if it was really barnyard, but it was my first impression, also some in flavor). Bready malty and hoppy beer with alcoholic kick. Intense beer. Very bitter. Too much everything for my liking, very hard to finish whole bottle.

Hazy orange-amber color, small white head. Very fruity, sweetish yeasty aroma (perfumic peaches). Dry, yeasty, papery flavor. Strawberry, barnyard, hoppy bitterness. Actually not so much sourness (from Brettanomyces). Good, interesting beer and yes, there is some similarities to Orval.

Some sweetness too. Aftertaste is loooong, roasted and alcoholic. This is demanding beer, propably changes after few years cellaring, but now it is a bit too much to drink liquid tyre. I can’t say that I enjoyed it.
