Bottle, thx to fonefan, 37.5cl corked. Pours a black, slightly oily body with a dense tan head. No carbonation. Soy sauce, some alcohol, coffee, dark bitter chocolate and a little salt in the aroma. The flavor has a wonderful sweetness, chocolate, an intense hoppyness and salty licorice notes. Oily mouthfeel, and a finish with lots of bitterness, fruityness and coffee. A lovely, big beer, but it will probably be a better big beer after some time in the bottle. Still I loved it. I loved it enough that I have later on enjoyed a bottle on my own, and will do that again. Rating: 8-5-9-5-17-4.4. 080412
Bottle. An oily, black beer, no head at all. Quite boozy on the nose, with coffee, dark chocolate and some soy sauce. At least some saltyness reminiscent of soy sauce. Lots of sweetness in the mouth, oily, full-bodied and very warming. Coffee and dark chocolate with a good addition of licorice and salty licorice. A bit heavy on the alcohol. I don’t really know, it’s tasteful as hell, but on the other side, it’s way too much. The booze is very evident, and it’s definately a two-hour beer. Bottle, 375ml corked. 2007 vintage. It pours more or less completely flat, some brown bubbles around the rim. Pitch black body. Intense aroma, burnt malts, alcohol, soy sauce and caramel and some coffee. It’s very warming on the palate, in a sort of pleasant way, oily and sweet. The flavor has dark sugar, alcohol, coffee, some licorice, a burnt touch and a pleasant bitterness. Burning finish with burnt malts and coffee. Well, what can one say. It’s a lovely beer in many ways, but it’s probably too intense as well. It’s best suited for sharing, although I can’t imagine I wouldn’t finish the bottle if I opened one on my own. 101208

Bottle @ Maria tasting. Black colour with a tan head. Aroma is roasted, malt, coffee, licorice. Flavour is roasted, malt, licorice, coffee, hop, alcohol. The finish is hop, coffee. Very nice after dinner beer.

Nice hazy orange with a mammoth, fluffy head. Intense citrus and pine hops, grapefruit, light pineapple, and some hidden caramel malt. Smooth bodied, though the hop bite makes you second guess that. Flavor is grapefruit, pine, light malt, and fairly oily. Not a flavor explosion like the aroma would make you believe but tasty none the less. The bitterness comes on as it finishes then recedes to a soft, lingering sting on the tongue. Very nice.

750ml bottle topped with a plastic cork and a wire cradle. Shared at a post-birthday party in Tromsø. Opens with shot and noise. Pours a beige head covering a hazy, dark brown body. Inviting smell of dark malts and dried fruits. Wine-like taste with lots of raisin and plums slightly spiced and followed by a solid dry, bittersweet ending. Mild alcohol hints. Soft natural carbonation. Full bodied (14.06.2008).

This is good, certainly a love it or hate it kind of beer, though I wouldn’t go so far as to say I love it. The boozy, smooth palate with no carbonation reminded me of World Wide Stout, but this is not as good as that beer. The aroma has port and red wine, as well as oak and vanilla, along coffee that has been burned in the roasted process. Flavor has some some and alcohol, which is not hidden at all. There is also raisin and bitter roasted malt with other malt that is still sweet and not overly roasted. It might need some time, but this is a beer with complexity and various flavors and aromas.

Pours pitch black, no head. This beer got better after a few sips. It starts of with a smell of soy sauce that leaves you wondering where the coffee might be. It does get a lot better after a few sips when the maltiness and the aroma of coffee/mocha sets in. Could hardly notice it was a 14% beer. A complex and interesting beer to say the least.

(Bottle, BBE 14/08/11) Pitch black. Small brown head which disappeared quickly. Vanilla, coffee and roasted malts in nose. Slight carbonation in dryi palate. Taste: acidy red wine, coffee, roasted malts, alcohol. Some vanilla. Bitter aftertaste. (I am suspecting that there was something wrong with the bottle I drunk.) (My rating was 3.5) Re-rate on 2008-07-22: Now, the acidiness is not there, so this bottle must be in better condition. Dark chocolate, roasted malts, bitterness and alchol form majority of the taste. Some vanilla and coffee, too. Quite balanced taste.

Pours reddish brown with minimal off white head that doesn’t last long at all. Aromas of malts, dark fruits, brown sugar and alcohol. Sweet alcoholic flavor. Lots of brown sugar and spices. Alcohol burn seems a bit much but still a good brew. Full body with minimal carbonation and a thick, sticky mouthfeel.

375ml bottle picked up at Ølbutikken and enjoyed with Arild and Finn A. on a hotel room in Copenhagen. Ring of nice bubbles on the surface of a clear mahogany body. Intense vinous aroma with black berries. More berries in flavour supported by dark malts and candy sugar, closing with tingling alcohol and a bitter touch. Full bodied (02.06.2008).

500ml bottle purchased at ølbutikken, Copenhagen. Rocky, white head with great laceworks covering a clear, dark amber body. Nice odor of succulent hops and a touch of almond. The flavour consists of tangy oranges and sappy hops with bready malts beneath leaving with rounded bitterness on a high level. Moderate mouthfeel (shared with Arild and Finn Arvid, 02.06.2008).
