[Another century celebrated with a Mikkeller beer - this time 8600] A deep red beer with a thick but collapsing rocky brown head. The aroma is sweet spicy with notes of brown sugar, yeast, malt, caramel, alcohol, and some berries and fruit, leaning towards being over ripe, the spices include cloves. The flavor is sweet malty with a very complex mix of candy sugar, caramel, yeast, fruit, alcohol, spices (cloves and cinnamon), berries, prunes, and some over ripe fruits, I even find light notes of chocolate - very complex like a Quad should be. At first you are hit by the great complexity with overwhelming power, but then the alcohol gains in strenth and really makes itself known, giving it a great body. The complex flavor lasts for a long time before a dry slightly yeasty and woody finish sets in and lingers for even longer. I also had it on draft, but like the bottled version better - it’s a bit more complex.

Hazy amber. Full body. Fat, tangy, chewy malt aroma. Balanced on the palate with big chewy malts, lots of English hops, caramel, and earth. Not a standout but well-made.

Draught at Københavnske Øldage. Jet black beer with some tan head. Coffee, chocolate notes, vanilla notes, hoppy bitterness, alcohol and syrupy sweetness in the aroma. The flavor has alcohol, coffee, chocolate, vanilla, hoppy bitterness and sweetness. Quite acidic and astringent in the mouth, silky and full. Long finish with coffee, vanilla and hops. It’s a bit on the sweet side, I like ’em drier, but it is a lovely beer anyway. It’s a pity it’s only an experiment. (070512)

Bottled. Dark mahogany colour, rich head. Grapefruity nose. Sweet withsome roasty chocolaty malt. Medium bodied with fairly high carbonation. Lots of aromatic hops supported by firm clean malt. Finishes with medium bitterness. Very hoppy for a brown ale.

Bottled (BB 02/2007)
Dark nut brown color, decent brown head. Cookies, yeast, chocolate, brown sugar in the nose. Lots of cold coffee, coffee beans. Full-bodied. Typical (if there is one) Mikkeller-taste can be traced. Something between Jackie Brown and Beer Geek Breakfast.

Murky dull beige. Woodsy, limey hops are okay but the malts are a muddled mess with nothing coming through. Mild flavour, timidly hoppy and the malts still have no character. A hint of chocolate comes out late but not enough to save it.
