Draught at Return of the Belgian Beer Fest, 9/17/16.
Pale, blonde-golden body, flaxen-hued and with a light haziness and large, well-retained, white head.
After trying all of their previous sours and saisons, most of which (excepting Saison de Foam 2.0) were much more in the American sour vein, I was very surprised to smell a soft, sublime, understated, funky, plastery nose with light suggestions of peach (very highly-macerated, leaving lots of pit and skin-like character) and very nicely developed brett (light band-aid, soft guava-lime) and lactic notes. No alcohol or flaw and full of light pepper and light dough-biscuit.
The flavor is awash in tartness, peach pit and funky, bright, fruity and band-aid-laden brett notes. Ultra-soft, light lactic acid rounds out the opening flavor and it transitions in to a lightly doughy-biscuity, finely carbonated texture with strong attenuation and light honey suggestions. Pepper and apple-strawberry-melon esters abound giving it very strong traditional qualities while cobwebby funk, peach and brett linger on the finish with light lactic character, as well. It’s like one part American Sour, one part Belgian Saison and one part Lambic. Stunning and my favorite beer of the fest.

Flip top growler thanks to Steve. Pours out a hazy pale straw topped with a small head. Nose is great tropical fruit notes almost like fruit loops. Taste is more of the tropical fruit notes and nice sweetness and some grapefruit pithy notes.

Lightly hazy, marmalade-golden body is topped by a small, white head showing moderate retention.
Brett is poignantly bright in the nose, with lime, lemon, moderate floral/perfume-like notes and a substantial malt base behind it with lots of grain and cracker. Good fruitiness, though it’s not intensely estery/overdone with brett gone wild. Very sniffable and maybe on the simple side, but you certainly can’t argue with the pleasant simplicity of brett done well.
In the mouth, it shows a substantial, yet dry body, with biscuit and wheat-like notes backing lime and guava-like brett. Lightly fruity and gently tart, with a light graininess on the end and hints of honeysuckle. Fairly tight, somewhat expansive carbonation softens as it breathes. No alcohol or flaw. Simple, flavorful, elegant.

Very pale golden body shows good clarity and a small, but fairly well-retained white head atop.
Very light simcoe-like notes in the nose of lime, light pine and some dank, spicy vegetal character. It works with the dry, peppery, vegetal yeast notes and produces an overall peppery, spicy, somewhat citric-laden nose that seems to be right up there with some of Oxbow’s hybrid American-hopped table saisons. Great attenuation, with biscuit and cracker-like malts in the background and no resin, alcohol or flaw.

Tap into a tulip glass showing cloudy orange and a finger of quickly dissipating clean white foam. The nose shows a lot of sharp pine resin. The palate shows a pulpy mouthfeel with gentle and full carbonation. Flavors of moderately intense pine resin with pineapple to citric oranges on the mid-palate and a light bitterness. The linger shows light pineapple and orange citrus again. Fantastic.

Tap into a tulip glass showing opaque orange with a quickly dissipating finger of clean white foam. The nose shows pronounced notes of papaya, orange citrus and light pine. The palate has a pulpy mouthfeel with gentle but full carbonation (like foam!). Strong juicy flavors of blood orange and light papaya with a resurgence of such flavors reappearing on the linger. A very light bitterness on the finish. This is clean and amazing.

Thanks Huhzubendah for sharing the bottle! Poured into a snifter showing unfiltered milky yellow with white foam on the rims. The nose shows intense pithy grapefruit with light pine resin. The palate is light bodied and moderately carbonated. Flavors of intense grapefruit and pine with a very light bitterness on the finish.

I poured mine into a tulip.
The appearance was a hazy burnt yellow to off orange brightness. Thin white foamy head that dissipated at a nice pace. Messy clingy lacing running here and there.
The aroma had some sweet floral qualities leaning towards jasmine, or perhaps chamomille. Nice level of brett, nothing overly done, it’s just there. Then some tartness and then citrus. Slight sweet herbal tone.
The flavor takes in all of the previously mentioned flavors to flow together very nicely. Subtle sliding sweet citrus to herbal toned aftertaste. The finish follows semi-sweet with a slight tart to bitterness seemingly just there.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a nice sessionability about it. Carbonation rides nice and low to let the herbal, citrus and floral qualities make it somewhat dry.
Overall, nice saison, but another one below a 4, hmmm...come on guys. Still rooting for you! I’d still come back to.

This was poured into a tall tulip.
The appearance was a hazy burnt orange to yellow color with a thin white bar pour’s kind of foamy white head. Light messy lacing.
The aroma takes on some sweet pear, dry woodiness, subtle grassiness, light green apple, Light citrus pulp.
The flavor brings it all together decently. Lingering grassy sweet to pear/apple aftertaste. Subtle quick citrus/pear finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a nice sessionability about it. Carbonation feels fine, nice and low.
Overall, this was a good saison that I could come back to. I know the brewer intended for it to be dry so I can’t complain that it was as dry as it was, but perhaps, if it was a tad less, I could really say this was a top notch beer. First beer from them from me below a 4, (nuts, well, I guess a brewery can’t have everything a knockout).

Built to spill Foam Brewers 8% Super cloudy gold with a timy white head. Soft juicy aroma of fruits and prickly pear. Somewhat aggressively carbonated burns down my throat. Very much a New England ipa with a juicy bitter hopiness. Good stuff. Ap 4 ar 8-9 t 8 p 2 o 14 ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
