Description
In 2010, David and Andy were looking down the barrel of economic downsizing in their industry. Looking at it as an opportunity instead of a problem, the two set out to take their basement hobby to a new level. The dream of all home-brewers; to go "legit" and open a commercial brewery, presented itself as a once in a lifetime opportunity. The two agreed upon a Nano Brewery (1 BBL brewhouse). Although they were hopeful it would be well received, they had no idea the amount of interest the locals had for craft beers. Along the way they found and hired on some awesome people to bring the brewery altogether. Blackrocks still brews beer at the original pub on 3rd St, as well as a 20 BBL production system in Marquette. two key ideas fuel Blackrocks on a day to day basis, always make the best beer possible and always have fun while doing it.

Can from Holiday Market. Pours a clearish gold with a finger of white foam that lingers. Citrus and pith focused nose with some light tropical pineapple and mango aromas as it warms. Soft mouthfeel with muted bitterness, crackery malt and light pineapple and citrus flavors. Some mineral-like notes and pine on the finish.

Who listed this as a “cream ale?” It is a malt liquor! Okay, maybe call it a strong lager. But I’ll stick to MALT LIQUOR.

Can from Holiday Market. Pours a clear straw yellow with a finger of white foam that lingers. Bready malt aromas with some pepper and light noble hop floral notes. Crisp and clean with more bready malt, faint floral honey and peppery hops on the palate and a touch of mineral taste. Crisp and clean finish. Really nice.

Smooth with a honey and toasted malt, bready character on the palate. Lingering pepper and grass with more toasted malt on the finish. Not overly sweet or cloying. Very nice.

12oz can. Filtered looking brown body. Thin off white head. Straightforward, very enjoyable. Doesn't quite have that German feel, but the smooth, sweet malt tones are very enjoyable. Good.

Can from Holiday Market. Pours a clearish brown with a finger of beige foam that dissipates. Lovely cocoa powder and coffee forward nose with light toasted coconut as it warms up. Leans drier on the palate with coconut, cocoa and coffee again. Good carbonation. Very refreshing without being overly adjuncty or sweet. Mild sweetness with more coffee and chocolate on the finish. Very good brown.

12 ounce can from Niemuth's Southside, 4/18/20. Black, large foamy tan head, good retention. Aroma of roast, dark chocolate, coffee, earth. Taste is roast, plum, cherry, chocolate, coffee. Medium bodied, chewy, high carb, well balanced. Very nice, especially at that ABV.

Can from Holiday Market. Pours a clear chestnut brown with a finger of off-white foam that dissipates. Toffee, rum spice, vanilla and oak aromas on the nose. Some fig and prune notes as it warms with milk chocolate. Medium body with light smoke, more toffee and chocolate with light bourbon notes. Vanilla, rum and bourbon on the finish with a light lingering peppery hop note. Good balance...perhaps the body is a bit thin, but a pretty solid BA Scotch Ale.
