Description
We are a little brewery situated in the original Hopcat location in GR. We have been brewing since 2008. We are the only Hopcat in the family with a brewery. Style labels are next to useless around here. We embrace the strange, push boundaries and value balance and subtle complexity over extremes.

Admin Note: As of August 5th, 2019 HopCat Grand Rapids is no longer a brewpub. Brewing equipment has been sold off so they can focus on supporting other local breweries.

Sample at HopCat Grand Rapids. Hazy orange color with a medium off-white head that diminishes steadily to an outer ring. Stringy lacing. Citrus, hops and malt aromas. Grassy hop, dank citrus and malt flavors. The finish is moderately bitter with a fruity hop aftertaste. Above average overall.

Purchased at Siciliano’s Market in Grand Rapids, MI; enjoyed on a fantastic late summer / early fall evening before going to a show. Appearance is cloudy gold with a rich white head. Aroma is hoppy. Taste is hoppy. This is an IPA that does the trick and there’s nothing really that stands out. It’s good.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass; no bottle dating, but is a recent release. Pours hazy/cloudy orange/amber color with a 2 finger dense and rocky off white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice dense soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, mango, papaya, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, honey, light caramel, toasted bread, and floral/grassy earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of juicy citrus/tropical/pine hops and moderate bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, mango, papaya, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, honey, light caramel, toasted bread, and floral/grassy earthiness. Moderate pine/citrus rind bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, mango, lemon/orange rind, pine, toasted bread, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of juicy citrus/tropical/pine hops and moderate bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance initially; leading to some light lingering hop astringency near the end of the glass. Light-moderate dryness from bitterness; increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately sticky/resinous, and fairly creamy/bready balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Minimal warming alcohol as expected of 6.3%. Overall this is a very nice IPA. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of juicy citrus/tropical/pine hops and moderate bready malt flavors; very smooth and easy to drink. My only real complaint was the hop astringency that shows up at the end of the glass, but it isn’t overwhelming. A very enjoyable offering.

Sampled from the tap at brew Detroit. Pours a clear yellow with a touch of gold and white head that dissipates to the edges and laces. Aroma has lots of pine with a light resin and a bread backbone. Flavor has lots of pine with a light resin note and a bit of sweet grains.

Draft - Grapefruit and pine. Clear gold with a decent white head. Grapefruit, sweetness and a clean finish. Pale malts in the back balance, a nice session IPA.
