Description
We are a little brewery situated in the original Hopcat location in GR. We have been brewing since 2008. We are the only Hopcat in the family with a brewery. Style labels are next to useless around here. We embrace the strange, push boundaries and value balance and subtle complexity over extremes.
Admin Note: As of August 5th, 2019 HopCat Grand Rapids is no longer a brewpub. Brewing equipment has been sold off so they can focus on supporting other local breweries.

On tap. Poured black with a bubbly off-white head. Aroma was full of roasted malts with undertones of cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg. Flavor had lots of spice, particularly cinnamon with the roasted malt notes taking more of a back seat.

On tap at HopCat. Hazy straw body, medium off-white head. Big sage nose. Creamy body with strong sage notes, backed by dry, toasty malts. I wouldn’t necessarily want to drink an entire pint, but a few ounces was enjoyable and interesting.

On tap at HopCat. Hazy yellow-orange body, thin off-white head. Herbal, citrusy nose. Citrusy body with white grapes and pears, cut by spices and sharp carbonation. Good balance between dry and sweet. Very good.

On tap at MBG Summer Festival. Poured a hazy amber gold with white head. Aroma consisted of pine and sage notes. The flavor started piney with sage but became more of a citrus and sage combination. It was an interesting and fun beer.

On tap at HopCat, a collaborative beer brewed in the bar’s in-house brewery. Deep opaque brown body, thin buff head. Medium-bodied but somewhat hollow palate, with roasted malts, dry chocolate, and fruity wheat. Light alcohol presence.

On tap at HopCat, one of the initial offerings brewed using the bar’s in-house brewery. Slightly hazy orange body, thin off-white head. Herbal, grassy, bitter body and nose with modest rye spiciness and a hint of honey. Tasty.

Lager on tap at HopCat, brewed at Sherwood with the help of Michael Plank (Plank Beer of Germany). Murky deep orange-brown body, thin cream head. Light earthy, toasty aroma, with estery banana and clove. Cerealy body with light chocolate and spice (clove), estery and quite dry, with light sweetness and a lengthy, leafy, bitter hops finish. Good body, bite, and quaffability.
