(Kiev 2016) 330 ml. bottle split by 2. Purchased at the Pravda Brewpub in Lviv. Bottled 27.04.16. Text on the bottle is far more accusatory and interesting (in typical Pravda style) than the name & label would suggest. Blackish dark brown with a huge but quickly gone tanned head. Nose is faintly sour, Coca-cola and bread, cherry, malt, chicory & herbal chocolate. Taste & body are overly fizzy, herbal, chicory, thin syrup, too herbal, chicory, herbal, burned chocolate. Pretty weak for a stout, expected more going by their McGuiness.

330 ml. bottle at the Pravda brewpub. Bottled 08.03.2016. Dark orange, amber off-white. Nose is sweet orange peel, sweet marmalade, low hops, sugar, low resin. Taste is sweet orange peel, sweet lemonade, sugar, toffee, tangerine, candy, orange peel, low pine, sweet malty. Very pleasant sweet treat, nice, a bit more barley wine than tripel but this is quite nice, neat.

330 ml. bottle at the Pravda brewpub. Oh boy was I surprised and shocked to see this, one of my all-time favorite beers brewed in Ukraine / an Ukrainian version of all things. The text in the bubbles actually differs from the original version, father is saying something akin to your mother is a whole as opposed to scumbag in dialect. The square bubbles features a text about fighting and destroying industrial beer. This beer being brewed in Ukraine is double interesting of course since the story Taras Boulba was written by the famous Ukrainian writer Gogol. Pours citrus paler golden, soapy white head. Nose is soapy citrus, low floral (nowhere anything close to the onslaught of the original), soap, citrus, oddly some yeast, touch lemongrass. Taste is a touch bland, lemongrass, citrus, fizzy, a bit too soapy, some yeast. Feels a bit empty & fizzy. It is actually a bit yeasty and no as clean, dry & crisp as the original hop is very low. Not bad on its own but pales compared to the original for me due to those qualities for me. Bottled 14.04.16.

330 ml. bottle at the Pravda brewpub in Lviv as Львів-Брюссель. Collaboration with De La Senne (oh boy was a surprised when I read that on the label after I ordered it). 25 IBU. Bottled 21.04.2016. Hazy golden, creamy off-white. Nose is milky yeast, banana, sweet candy sugar, bland yeast. Taste is boring banana, wheat, sugar, candy, fizzy, bland, overly sweet, too heavy with yeast, white bread. Lacks the typical De La Senne hop profile & qualities, very sweet & totally not dry like I am used from De La Senne. Shockingly basically a sweet, banana & white bread and sugar saison by these guys. Happy to have tried it but easily the least interesting De La Senne beer to date for me.

330 ml. bottle at the Pravda brewpub in Lviv. Bottled 20.05.2016 – Drank 26.05.2016! Dark brown to black, patchy tanned head. Nose is rich roasted malts & big chicory, roasted herbal & some chocolate. Taste is faintly fizzy, pleasant chicory & herbal, dry & mildly bitter but there is great blanace by low chocolate sweet chicory, herbal, dry, works quite well, unexpected & lovely surprise. For me easily best Ukranian beer that I tried during my visit together with Ципа Kопчений (Tsypa Kopchena), very far above the rest. Nice surprise & way better than the other Pravda beers that I tried. Didn’t notice the lacto.

Sampled draft as “Red Eyes / Червоні Очі” at the Pravda brewpub in Lviv. Dark brown copper, small tanned head. Nose is thick weird vegetable sweet affair with thick bread, malt, dark fruit compote, herbal, copper. Taste is weird neutral bitter herbs, iron, copper, leaves, herbs, low butter, herbal. Body is thick herbs & leaves. Quite messy & not fully successful, touch too much strange components but not entirely off-putting.

250 ml. draft as “Львівський Народний Ель” at the Pravda brewpub in Lviv. Very hazy golden, little white head. Nose is sweet bit dull banana, low soap, faint popcorn & lots of sweet bread. Taste is low butter that doesn’t butter, easy big banana, popcorn, sweet white bread, low plastic, sweet. Very easy, touch bland, banana, white bread & butter beer. Harmless enough, decent but lacks anything that pops, could have been better, could have been worse, okay beer, drank decently.

(Kiev 2016) Sampled draft @ Wooly Hops. Waiter believed that they used Barbaris in this one. Dark orange, off-white. Nose is massive soap, sweet soap & lavender, low vanilla & even more hand soap. Taste is very big soap, sugar, hand soap, lavender, extremely sweet, touch banana. Thick creamy body. In theory there is nothing wrong with this one but this is just way too much hand soap & sweetness for me to genuinely like.
