Bottle. Pours unpolished copper with a small light tan head. Smells of sugary cinnamon toast. There’s nutmeg, kaffir lime leaves, dried limes, cardamon pods, herbal honey and star anise too. Tastes rich sweet and spicy with a drying woody spicy finish. It’s complex and obviously well-made, but I didn’t like it much at all.

Growler bought at the brewery. April 2010 release. A pale amber beer with a thin off-white head. The aroma has pretty strong notes of hops, though not as much as in other green hopped beers, combined with notes of grapefruit and some caramel and malt. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of Nelson Sauvin hops as well as notes of grapefruit, and lighter notes of caramel and hops, leading to a bitter finish. OK, but I’m somewhat disappointed from the style and brewery.

Bottle, 7C. Darkish brown with a modest beige head. High bead. Roasted malt and dried fruit aroma. Slightly subdued nose may be related to the fact that this is a couple of months past best-before date. Mouthfilling rich malts and dark fruits with a little citrus bite. I was happy not to taste any banana. Cocoa and cinnamon notes at the end. It’s a sessionable, easy-going drop, but there’s a tight fist of intense flavours that lifts this above other beers I’ve tried in this style.

Bottle, 11C. 2009 vintage. Hazy copper, loose inch of light beige head, a decent amount of which is retained all the way down. Aroma is mainly grass with some cheese rind, wood, dried apricots, apples and white pepper. Deep fruit sweetness with fresh and dried red berries; some vinous character; some grapefruit sourness and spicy/ pine bitterness. I liked it a lot coldish and fresh. I suppose warmer and older might work too.

Bottle. Clear amber, 1/2 cm beige head. Savoury aroma floral and grassy hops with earth and caramel underneath. Delicate mouthfeel. A little malt sweetness with some fruit and hop firmness. Medium length mild bitter finish. A little too much fizz. Probably would be very good on tap. As it is, it’s a pretty good bottled bitter and very pleasant, easy-going drop. I have to admit I was hoping for more from Emerson’s here, but great bitter is elusive.

Bottle, pours pretty much black, tan head settles to a good coat. Very mild aroma has roasted notes and coffee. Nice balanced roast/ fruit/ hop flavours. Smooth mouthfeel backed up with a little bite at the end.

Bottle. Copper, small light beige head with some lacing. Toast, seville oranges and grass nose. Medium-bodied, very slightly oily. Insistent spicy bitterness at the finish. Not terribly complex, but nicely balanced. Just enough alcohol and hops for the journey - IPAs don’t have to be an attempted mugging.

Pours golden amber with a ridiculously huge soap-suddy head.Aroma shows lots of floral and grassy hops, along with juicy pears and grapes. There’s some sweet clean malt, and later on the aroma takes on more of a herbal note, with coriander and cloves. Different to any other IPA I’ve had!Flavours include some floral hops and juicy fruit, with some light sweet malt and a prominent but easy-going bitterness. Unfortunately there’s a soapy taste in there that quite off-putting after a few sips.Moderately high carbonation and a light body makes for quite a refreshing brew.Very easy to drink. If fact I wouldn’t even say this is of IPA strength.

Bottle, 500ml. Pale gold, large tight white head, fair bit of carbonation. The head lasts very well. Smells grassy and spicy. Some wood chips and blackcurrants too. Flavour is a little sour to go with supporting light, biscuity malts and fruits (berries, apricots). Mouth-puckering hop bitterness at the end. Not an imitation of a Czech or German Pilsener. I was going to say it’s a bit austere and I wouldn’t want a second now had I bought one, but it’s become quite a bit more approachable as it warms a little in the glass. [moved rate of non-organic version, returned score to what it was]
