Capped 750 from The Davis Beer Shoppe in Davis, CA. Pours hazy gold with a foamy/creamy white head. Aromas of earthy fruits and grass. Med body nearly. Flavor is lightly barnyard/citrus/grassy. Might be improved by eliminating the wheat. But it’s a very tasty ale, and by far the best low alcohol I can recall.

Cloudy gold, nice light fruity persimmon nose. Citrus hops, peppery. A good mix of fruity Belgian yeast and spicy hops.

750 ml bottle shared @ The Rover. Pours oily black with a dark chocolate brown head that doesn’t leave much trace while dissipating. Smell is sweet with molasses, liquorice, roasted malts, viola, dark bread and alcohol. Taste is very sweet, slightly bitter and slightly metallic with roasted malts, molasses, liquorice fudge, prunes, raisins, dark bread, golden syrup and alcohol. Mouthfeel is sticky sweet and full bodied. Finish is sweet and bitter with coffee and molasses.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy orange with large creamy white head leaving sticky lacing. The aroma is fruit and yeast. Thin mouthfeel with a dry hop and resin with a long lingering dry finish. Tastes more of a saison then belgian strong ale.

Bottle. Pours with a hazy, deep golden hue (a bit of orange). Massive just off-white head with great lace. Aromas are of citrus, pine, resin, medium phenolic yeast, dry, medium malt (toasted complexity). Grapefruit, grassy, a bit of a carbonic bite. Flavors are bitter, hoppy, grassy, medium citrusy, orange, grapefruit, alcohol, light grain, medium phenol. Very dry, bitter, feels a bit big. Extremely lively carbonation, lingering bitter, medium body, bone dry.

Got this from a friend in a trade. 750 ml bottle into pint glass, no bottle dating. Pours slightly hazy golden orange color with a huge 2-3 finger foamy off white head with great retention that reduces to a nice thick cap that lasts. Some decent lacing on the glass. Aromas of biscuit, caramel, rye, pine, citrus, pepper, herbal, clove, and floral notes. Nice balanced aromas, and quite a bit weaker than I was expecting. Taste of big pine, spicy rye, caramel, biscuit, pepper, citrus, clove, and herbal spiciness. Nice sized spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of biscuit, herbal spiciness, caramel, and citrus on the finish for a while. Medium-high carbonation and medium bodied; with a fairly creamy and slightly prickly mouthfeel. Fairly smooth to drink, but is still a bit of a sipper with the big bitterness. Alcohol is well hidden with only a warming after the finish present. Overall a very nice offering from Jester King. Definitely felt more like a really hoppy rye saison, but I really enjoyed this one.

Bottle. Pours with a hazy, vibrant golden to yellow hued body with a large white head with good retention and lacing. Aromas are a bit grainy and nutty, very slight DMS, mild yeast esters, and some peppery, earthy, spicy hops. Pine, lightly grassy. Sage, rustic. Flavors are bitter up front, grassy, grainy, earthy, somewhat spicy. Quite rustic. Pine, green, herbal, quite dry. Peppery, mild phenol. Fuller carbonation, medium to slightly lighter body. Dry.

Bottle. Are they going for a DuPont Avril type of thing? Pours with a slight haze to the yellow body. Medium sized, fluffy white head that stays. Aromas are of bready pils malt, crackery, doughy, a touch of a pineapple like ester, some peppery phenols, lightly spicy, earthy, green hop character. Flavors show quite a bit of bready and crackery wheat malt. Super dry and thin bodied as well. Seems like a belgian interpretation of a british mild or a session belgian pale ale. Mostly malt through the finish. Nearly a bit of a cardboard character (not oxidation though). Light saison yeast tartness (a hint of lemony acidity), medium phenols, light hop character. A bit boring/mundane, but nothing wrong. Would be great on tap in 90*F weather. Very drinkable. Lively bubbles, dry, thin body.
Label indicates that this is a "Clear and simple expression of the interplay between noble hops and farmhouse yeast". I think they missed the mark a bit as the malt character is the forefront with such a low OG beer. This note is mostly to myself, but if I were them, I’d do: 90% pils, 6% wheat, 2% caramunich, 2% acid, add another 10ibu and either double the late addition or dry hop (more). Also ferment the yeast warmer to get more esters and phenols out of it.

Bottle with Steve and the Foco BA crew. Black appearance with a medium sized, dark brown head. Spicy yeasty, orange citrusy, roasty malty aroma. Spicy, somewhat peppery, roasty dark malty, light chocolate flavor. Ok.
