Description
Bellwoods Brewery began as a small brewpub in the west end of Toronto in 2012, and underwent a couple modest growth spurts over the years to encompass two retail shops (selling fresh cans and bottles), and a production brewery in North York (mostly to house The Foeder Pyramid). These days, we produce about 18,000hL a year, which is a mere blip in the grand scheme of Ontario beer, but keeps us pretty busy. The styles we’re interested in brewing range greatly, and we always remain open to new ways of making beer. For the most part, our current efforts are devoted to aromatic hoppy stuff, crisp lagers, barrel aged wild blends, fruit-forward zingers, and the occasional barrel aged stout. There’s always a new, creative project waiting in the wings. We’re still a relatively small, collaborative team, forever dedicated to the pursuit of perfect beer–thanks so much for partaking in the fruits of our labour.

We’ve all by this point have seen how damn amazing double IPAs can be, I hoping this is one. Pours a hazy orange with yellow edges, minimal white head that breaks down to a ring and lumps rather quickly. Nose is mildly sweet malts, but with stronger hops of resin, a little floral and a little onion. The taste is bright hoppiness with orange, onion, floral with a little resin, all supported by a mildly sweet malt. The aftertaste is like biting into an orange wedge that was cut on an onion-contaminate cutting board. Weird? I like it. Not mind-blowing but nice. Plus, I bow to the wisdom of creating a beer just to fulfill the possibly of a cool-sounding name, which had to be the origin-story here.

500mL bottle, pour a cloudy golden orange with a small white head. Aroma brings out loads of apricot and ginger upfront. Flavour is huge on the brett, followed by apricot, light ginger and the berries. Wonderfully cohesive. The brett is well-situated and doesn't drown out the fruit and ginger. Excellent.

Draught @ the brewpub. Pours hazy straw with creamy, stable white head. Clear aroma of hops and needles, with touches of yeast and hints of malt. Sweetish, fruity and malty flavour with pronounced hoppy notes. Hints of yeast, especially in the rather grainy aftertaste with mild acidic notes. A brilliant Low Alc beer, definitely the best I have ever had.
