Description
Bellwoods Brewery began as a small brewpub in the west end of Toronto in 2012, and underwent a couple modest growth spurts over the years to encompass two retail shops (selling fresh cans and bottles), and a production brewery in North York (mostly to house The Foeder Pyramid). These days, we produce about 18,000hL a year, which is a mere blip in the grand scheme of Ontario beer, but keeps us pretty busy. The styles we’re interested in brewing range greatly, and we always remain open to new ways of making beer. For the most part, our current efforts are devoted to aromatic hoppy stuff, crisp lagers, barrel aged wild blends, fruit-forward zingers, and the occasional barrel aged stout. There’s always a new, creative project waiting in the wings. We’re still a relatively small, collaborative team, forever dedicated to the pursuit of perfect beer–thanks so much for partaking in the fruits of our labour.

On tap at Stillwell Freehouse. Pours hazy blonde with a white head. Decent complexity on the nose, floral notes, Brett, and some citrus. Flavour has plenty of Brett, fairly dry and woody, floral grassy notes, some citrus peels. High carbonation. Very nice.

On tap at Stillwell Freehouse. Pours an opaque dark brown with a foamy beige head. Loads of bitter dark chocolate, fresh raspberries, and dusty old wood on the nose. Flavour has intense raspberries, dry old wood, and cacao. The raspberries integrate very well with the base, creating a good depth of flavour. Very nice.

This lager poured a crystal clear light yellow colour with a soapy, white head. Nice lacing. Scents include corn, lemon citrus, straw and a tiny bit of perm solution. First swig was quite thin and refreshing. Flavours of tea, light citrus, minimal corn and a little honey. Finish has medium light hoppy bitterness with corn and malt flavours lingering.

A bit too harsh. Much better when blended with a 3 Fonteinen Geuze.
