Description
Bellwoods Brewery began as a small brewpub in the west end of Toronto in 2012, and underwent a couple modest growth spurts over the years to encompass two retail shops (selling fresh cans and bottles), and a production brewery in North York (mostly to house The Foeder Pyramid). These days, we produce about 18,000hL a year, which is a mere blip in the grand scheme of Ontario beer, but keeps us pretty busy. The styles we’re interested in brewing range greatly, and we always remain open to new ways of making beer. For the most part, our current efforts are devoted to aromatic hoppy stuff, crisp lagers, barrel aged wild blends, fruit-forward zingers, and the occasional barrel aged stout. There’s always a new, creative project waiting in the wings. We’re still a relatively small, collaborative team, forever dedicated to the pursuit of perfect beer–thanks so much for partaking in the fruits of our labour.

Jammy, sweetish and slightly tart with some berries, hints of sourness and fruitiness. A bit simple.

Intensely spicy, roasty and sweetish with loads of cinnamon, warming chili, hints of chocolate sauce, cocoa, vanilla and mole sauce. Pretty hot but tasty.

Fruity hoppy, piney and slightly resinous with some melon, grapefruit and orange peel, hints of citrus, grass and herbal hoppiness. A nice mix of old skool and new skool

Hazy, golden colour with an orange hue, a whitish cap that stays a little while, and light lacing streaks are left. Some boozy-bitterness in the nose with citrus notes, tropical-stone fruits, apples, a tad resinous with mild grassiness. The flavours give out a blend of oranges and apples. A wet, juicy mouthfeel with a light, slow building dryness. Even getting an apple skin tartiness left on the tongue. An interesting, juicy, refreshing Double IPA that is fairly thin for the style - so going down nicely.

On tap at Bellwoods, pours a cloudy dark pinkish red with a small pink head. Aroma is full of lacto galore, big jammy berries, and more yogurt. Flavour is full of pithy, jammy berries and big yogurty notes from the lacto. Pretty typical fruited kettle sour. Nothing complex, just lots of fruit pith and jamminess over lacto. Fine.

On tap at Bellwoods, pours a cloudy orangey yellow with a small white head. Aroma is full of hopburn and allium galore—about as bad as a hazy can smell. Flavour is thankfully better, with tropical fruits, stone fruit pith, allium and a touch of hopburn. Not egregious but has no qualities I like in a hazy, let alone an IPA.

On tap at Bellwoods, pours a clear dark amber brown with a small white head. Aroma has toasted bready malt, some toasted nuts, and some earthiness. Flavour is more flavourful than a typical Mexican dark lager, with toasted dark bread and lsome nuttiness. Clean and drinkable but totally uninteresting.
