Bottle at Beer Gallery Luxury. Amber brown colour, big golden creamy head. Aroma is light roast, pretty floral, lemon, surprisingly so. Taste is nice, Parma violets, nice sweetness, bit of milky choc, vanilla. Surprisingly light. Don't remember it tasting like this.

Surprised to see I had never rated this. Consequently, I didn't make any notes. Bottle was a few years old and had lost a little of the usual floral/parma violets elements. Lots of dark fruit, very belgian, yeasty, thick and smooth. Yum. Another aged bottle, this time lots of treacle, caramel. Still great.

Rich dark brown colour, with small golden head. Aroma is rich maltiness, sweet caramel, bit of booze, dark fruit. Taste is nice, smooth, roasty malt, bit beefy, not so much floral herby as with the 10. Touch of creaminess. Very nice and smooth, and easy drinking. I love the 10 but the 8 is still pretty damn good.

0,33 l bottle. Pours deep amber with a couple of fingers of quickly dissipating off white head. Veil of head remains till the end of the glass due to high carbonation. Aroma is quite complex, malt, yeast, very fruity, stone fruit, dates and dried figs, some caramel, woody and spicy. Taste is medium sweet and medium bitter. Body is quite rich, mouthfeel oily and carbonation lively. Finish is again fruity and rounded nicely with gentle, somewhat spicy bitterness and a hint of alcohol.

Liquorice aroma. Chocolate, coffee, citrus en lots of liquorice in the taste. Bit tart. Highly carbonated. Delicious and complex trappist ale. You can't taste the alcohol at all.

Aroma of yeast and hops. Yeast, chocolate, blackcurrant, coffee, alcohol and some roasted malt in the taste. Malty and syrupy with an intense long bittersweet finish. A classic! After several tastings on the terrace of Café de Engel in Oldenzaal, I'll stick to my rating. With every sample you discover more flavors and aroma's.
