Description
Grimm Artisanal Ales is a Brooklyn-based brewery founded in 2013 by Joe and Lauren Grimm after nearly a decade of tinkering with fermentation. Grimm specializes in concise, elegant ales epitomizing the creative, experimental spirit of the American artisanal beer revolution. With each limited edition release, we seek to push the boundaries of style and flavor in order to create beers with the utmost depth and complexity. For five years, Grimm operated as a nomadic brewery. Joe and Lauren would develop each recipe in the kitchen of their Gowanus apartment and travel to existing breweries near and far to craft their commercial beers.

Bottle from NY Beer Dispensary while on a work trip.
Barrel aged Berliner weisse Alex with merlot, Cabernet France and Pinot noir grapes.

Half hazy, plum pour, weak soda head, bits of light.
Dusty, lemon, dry grape nose, sour bubblegum, not that impressed yet.
Big foxy grape funk twang. Briney, sour wheat, white pepper, minginette, lemon.
Crispy, thin, lots of vinegar, overtly sweet, not super attractive.

16oz can from Tavour. Clear, dark amber pour, sturdy, thick, fluffy off-white head. Light smoky aroma, caramel. Stronger smoke in the taste, ashy, campfire, malty. Light sweetness and mildly dry.

Pretty much an opaque dark brown beer, small dark tan head. Smooth palate, slightly viscous, reasonable fine carbonation, absolutely fine for this brew. Smooth dark malts, a decent dark chocolate, nicely rounded and not at all cocoa bitter. Lovely soft coconut rum kicks in, the rich ripe fruitiness of rum seamlessly integrated with soft smooth coconut. Back end brings a little deeper dark chocolate and a coconut frosting. Long fruity rum and coconut linger. A delight. One of those beers that I thought I would love and was bang on the money.
