Bottle @ fonefan tasting. Black with a big and lasting dark brown head. Aroma is roasted malt, coffee, a little chocolate and wood. Flavor is quite sweet and moderate bitter. Dry and roasted moderate bitter finish. 091112

Sample at Falling Rock Beer Tasting with Dr. Bill on 10/13/2012. Hazy golden pour with a medium thick fluffy white head that dissipates slowly. Patchy lacing on the glass. The aroma consists of pineapple, sweet malt and hops. Medium-bodied with a tropical fruit character and notes of biscuit malt and grassy hops. The finish is fruity with a citrusy hops aftertaste. Very good all around.

Shared by mixylplik3, thanks for the opportunity Matt! Pours an inky black color with a smallish tan head that dissipates rather quickly. Smells of caramel, chocolate, brown sugar, maple, and a hint of earthy hops. The flavor follows the aroma and is incredibly smooth. Sweet maple and brown sugar play nicely with chocolate coffee and roast against a hint of earth and a touch of alcohol. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a sweet sugary mouthfeel. This is a great beer, nicely balanced, smooth and quite tasty.

Picked this up in June / July at the Waitsfield Farmer’s Market. 2010 Vintage. Paid $30 a bottle for this so finally cracking it open. Enjoyed in a snifter.
A - deep burnt gold appearance. Hazy and low carbonation
S - LOVE the smell. Big dark fruits, burnt orange peels and brown sugar. Hint of breadiness.
T - WOW!!!!!! This is huge! BIG brown sugar, big raisins, big plums, candied apples and loads of spices like coriander, sugar, pepper and honey! WHOA. Awesome! The only down fall is that I get a lot of the alcohol booziness on the finish. Has an almost bourbon finish.
M - Heavy body, light carbonation.

On tap at Blackback Pub. HFS glass 45-50 F. 3 finger coffee head. Midnight black. Head fades slowly. Gorgeous lacing. Smells like cocoa beans and vanilla. Caramel and burnt sugar. Taste is big roasted malts. Chocolate malts. A hint of smoked malts. Coffee and an interesting kiwi or pineapple note along with toasty finish. Heavy body. Medium carbonation

Barrel Aged Bottle. Pours with a hazy golden orange hued body with no head. Aromas are of celery seed, brown sugar, honey, toffee and lots of caramel. Esters, dark fruits, light barrel. Flavors are maple and very sweet. Fruity, marmalade, alcohol, barrel. Syrupy mouthfeel with low carbonation and light tannin.

Picked this up at the latest Farmers Market. I believe $8 a bottle. Enjoyed in a Hill Farmstead glass at cellar temp (60F)
A - Minimal head, dark amber brown.
S - Maple sweetness, some spiciness, brown sugar and lemons.
T - Taste is very sweet up front and at the finish. Middle is ground pepper and carrots. The lingering is very dry and very astringent.
M - Medium body and carbonation.
O - I thought this beer would be a little sweeter, maybe less boozy. It’s not that great but still drinkable.

From the bottle into a Hill Farmstead glass. Fridge temperature. Appearance is a hazy and cloudy dark gold. 1 finger head that faded instantly. Scent is great. Lots of american hops. I get Simcoe and Cascade. Smells nice and piney. Taste is also awesome. It’s an incredibly chewy and thick bitterness. Very bitter, lots of pine resin and pine needle. Hint of grapefruit and thick woody finish.

Draft at the Three Penny Taproom on 7 July 2012. Also had in bottle. (this is a lost rating from notes) Gold with amber like hues. I smell centennial hops. Taste is real amazing given the low ABV. I get grain, citrus and some grassy notes. Bitterness is on the short side. Real clean and light. I respect what the brewer did here.
