Pours a dark, cola black, with smallish tan head that rapidly dissipates. Aroma of coffee, chocolate, but, surprisingly, not much maple syrup. Flavor is rather bitter--again, I was surprised by how much so. This isn't the sweet, maple stout I was expecting. Bitter chocolate and coffee, some dark fruit, a touch of maple syrup, but also some cardboard and leather in there. Has a pretty bitter finish, too.

16 oz can at Pennsport. Medium golden, light haze, spotty head. Aroma features light hoppy notes, caramel. Taste did not wow me at first, given this beer's rep. It did creep up on me as I made my way through, tropical fruit notes, toffee, light floral and herbal accents. Slick, full mouthfeel Lingering bitterness.

Can (11/14/19) pour from Colonial Spirits, Acton as part of blind taste test. Appearance is lightly hazy with light sparkle, finger-width foamy white head with fair retention and light lacing. Aroma is almost nonexistent light cracker. Taste is vague fruit/fruity esters and faint saltine. Mouthfeel is light side of light-to-medium bodied with thin, frothy texture, average carbonation with lively kick at the end and dry bitter finish. Overall, faint flavor, virtually no aroma and overcarbonated, perhaps related to time since canning. I was putting off buying this because of lukewarm ratings and people were not wrong. If you are going to get a Lawson's beer, go to their places that are here or there and not this space in between.

16 ounce can. Amber orange pour. Small creamy beige head. Unusual sweet malt nose has musty, earthy notes. Flavor has toasty, caramel malt notes. Maple and sulfur come to mind. Interesting.

Bottle at Stoutfest. whoa. decadent Christmas aroma. has same appearance at other Faystons. smells like an apple liquor cinnamon bomb. cinnamon up front in the flavor. finishes with coffee. pastry flavors, very toasty, good balance, not boozy, still couldn't drink a full bottle.

2019 version, at Stoutfest, NovareRes. looks like cough syrup. it's black but with a viscosity that's thin and buoyant. the aroma is really good apple brandy dominates. like double barreled? Pears? it's a thin beer and best in only a few ounce portions. has a juicy liquor cream flavor but no chocolate. maple, apple, creamy, goes down easy. a little bit of vodka flavor.
