Description
Arbor Brewing Company was founded by husband and wife team Matt and Rene Greff, who share a passion for beer and adventure. By their late 20’s, the Greffs had become disenchanted with their corporate gigs and soon after brewpubs were legalized in Michigan, they set about opening their own. They opened their doors in July, 1995 and became the first brewpub to open in Ann Arbor and only the fifth brewpub to open in Michigan’s fledgling industry.

With the brewpub humming along and craft beer continuing to gain momentum, Matt and Rene set their sights on opening a production brewery to increase production and open up state-wide distribution. As long-time Ypsilanti residents, the Greffs wanted to help spearhead the economic renaissance in their hometown, so they chose an old ware house in Ypsilanti’s historic district, at that time still a few blocks off the beaten path. Cornery Brewery opened to the public in 2006.The Corner Brewery quickly became a favorite local hangout, and by 2010 the brewery was bursting at the seams. So we set our sights on an ambitious $1 million expansion and green brewery renovation project. In addition to adding solar panels to the roof and geothermal cooling underground, the project doubled the amount of car parking, tripled the amount of bike parking, added 2,200 new warehouse and office space, doubled the brewing capacity, and increased the bottling speed 5 fold. This renovation set the stage for continued growth.

In May of 2017, Arbor Brewing Company was purchased by Farm + Ferment, a Michigan-based farm and hospitality group which also includes Bigalora Wood Fired Cucina, Bacco Ristorante, Michigan Hop Alliance, and Baia Estate. The new ownership group continues the entrepreneurial spirit started by Matt and Rene, and brings synergies and growth opportunities with their hop farm and vineyard, both located on the Leelanau Peninsula. We again set out on another round of renovations and upgrades including a new kitchen at the brewpub, a new lab and production equipment at the brewery, and culminating at the end of 2017 with the installation of new, state-of-the-art canning line.

Poured into a nonic pint glass, the appearance was a rigid burnt amber color with a finger’s worth of white foamy head that fell off at a decent pace. Sly messy lace.
The aroma had some sweet citrus pulp, light pine, herbal hop quality, light earthiness, damp wood and a little bit of grassiness.
The flavor was somewhat sweet with that dried \"English\" sort of taste to it. Aftertaste was earthy, herbal and floral with some toast. Finish was malty.
The palate was somewhat dry with a medium body, sturdy carbonation and a nice ABV.
Overall, seemed like an English styled IPA to me, I didn’t mind this one. But also could have been an old bottle as there wasn’t any date on it.

Reviewed from notes.
The appearance was a fairly dark burnt orange color with a finger’s worth of white foamy head that dissipated immediately. Left some speckled lace.
The aroma had some musty old grass, light citrus pulp, piney notes, and an earthy sort dried malt.
The flavor had that dried earthy malt up front with some mineral notes and the musty old grass. Faint breadiness. All seemed to blend in the aftertaste and finish.
The feel was about medium bodied with a fair sessionability about it. Decent carbonation and an ABV that felt right.
Overall, a bit different for me in the IPA category, not sure if I would come back to. Maybe.

Reviewed from notes.
The appearance was a semi-burnt golden to copper color with a finger and a half’s worth of white foamy head that dissipated at a moderate pace. Slight lace.
The aroma had some orange peel, light bubblegum, light ginger to allspice. Then some earthy spice, some grassiness. Light melon and a touch of resin slide into the backbone.
The flavor yielded to the sweet side of the blend of the bubblegum, orange peel and melon. Allspice and ginger seem barely here. Earthy spice along with the grassiness asserts itself mildly and then most of this follows through in the aftertaste. Not much of any finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a good sipping quality about it. Spice doesn’t equate to too much harshness along my tongue, seemed just enough to curb the maltiness trying to cling to my tongue. Felt great.
Overall, really nice Belgian strong ale. Maybe if I’m lucky, I can get sucked up in this vortex and never be heard from ever again.

So, I buy this beer bottle on a clearance rack thinkin its expired october fest because it says autumn beer on the label. From the start I see its big black large & in charge and a little muddy in my glass. Smell is mild whiskey soaked saddle. Reminds me of well used, gas soaked shovelhead oil. Very rude first impressions. Lots of muddy sediment on the bottom of the bottle, wew. Forget about a fest beer, or even a bock beer, this is fockin hell. Lives up to its name, a monster of a beer. I bet domestic imperial stout lovers will love this concoction. So big so heavy so impressive so over the top. Finish is simply volatile. A big nasty glass of shuttah hell up. Dizzying.

On tap at Hopcat A2. Pours a clear amber with a copper hue and light brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has some sweet grains and acidic red fruits with an oaky backbone. Flavor is quite acidic with red fruits and a good amount of oakiness.
