Can (2018?) pour from trade with AirForceHops--thanks, Chris! Appearance is opaque black with no sparkle, mild viscosity, thin cap of beige head with poor retention and no lacing. Aroma is strong roasted malt, cinnamon, rum, vanilla and milder chiles and cocoa. Taste follows aroma. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with full, thick texture, touch of chile spice, nice strong alcohol warmth, average carbonation and finish as taste. Overall, another winner from White Elm in the Champurrado series. Nice complexity and everything is really well balanced. Only fault is maybe a little over carbonated.

16 oz. Aroma is cocoa, raisin, vanilla, peppers, caramel, licorice, coffee. Pours inky black with a one finger tan head with great retention. Taste is pretty sweet, lightly tart, with flavors like the aroma descriptors. Alcohol is somewhat masked--tastes like it could be in the 9 or 10 % range rather than 14.8%. Perfect velvety mouthfeel. Great beer.

Can (2019 vintage) pour in share with AirForceHops. Appearance is inky black with no apparent sparkle, thin ring of light brown head with no lacing. Aroma is exceptionally strong marshmallow, roasted malt, vanilla, chocolate. Taste follows aroma but there is a slight alcohol burn/astringency. Mouthfeel is light side of light-to-medium bodied with thin, smooth texture, soft carbonation and finish as taste. Overall, exceptional. Mild complaint that alcohol may be a little harsh and clouds the flavor and may be a little thin but that is only to distinguish it among amazing beers.

Crystal clear golden and peach coloured body with a very nice, microfoamed tan and off-white head, about three centimetres tall that stays afloat nicely. Aroma of citrus, oranges, light resin, a touch of alcohol and some good malt scents, as well. Medium-bodied; Very rich malt, vanilla, alcohol, pine, resin and very floral hop notes with some grass, but there is a pungent bitterness and light astringency that does show the alcohol, but is slightly tempered by the malt and light vanilla. Aftertaste shows the very astringent and bitter citrus with some malt and a touch of vanilla, but the grassy, floral and malt flavours dominate, with literally no sweetness noticeable at all throughout this one, not from fruits, caster sugar or even lactose! Overall, a very bitter and pungent beer, but not from the hops hops - just from the citrus, alcohol and flowers. Very interesting and okay to tr, but definitely not what I was expecting and I wash I hadn't used space in my suitcase for this one! I sampled this sixteen ounce can, purchased from Hy-Vee in Papillion (Omaha), Nebraska on 21-January-2020 for US$2,99 sampled at my house here in Washington on 13-April-2020.

Can pour in bottle share with AirForceHops--thanks, Chris! Appearance is opaque very, very dark brown--virtually opaque--with no sparkle, nice viscosity, ephemeral ring of light brown head and no lacing. Aroma is incredibly strong (from over a foot away--outside!!) bourbon, rum, roasted malt with vanilla and chocolate undertones, mild tart and alcohol. Taste is strong bourbon, rum, coconut, dark fruit, roasted malt, vanilla, wood, the slightest bit of alcohol on initial sip but vanishes as it warms. Mouthfeel is light-to-medium bodied with smooth, silky texture, soft carbonation, not alcohol burn but noticeable presence, amazing alcohol warmth and wonderful finish as taste. Overall, wonderful complexity and strength. How do you get alcohol warmth 20 seconds after a sip? I wasn't sure you could improve on Casual Friday, but it might have happened?

16 oz. Aroma on pour is coconut, rum and bourbon barrel. Whoa! The flavor has ALL the elements and nothing overpowers. Balance of coconut, vanilla, chocolate, and roast. Bourbon and rum treatment are beautiful in the stout. I canβt detect alcohol even at the strength. Slight warming after the sip. Marvelous

Can pour from trade with AirForceHops--thanks, Chris! Appearance is opaque inky black with light sparkle at the edges of the glass, finger-width dark brown fizzy head with poor retention and no lacing. Aroma is strong coconut, roasted malt, dark fruit, chocolate and vanilla. Taste is decadently rich follow of the aroma. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with thick, silky texture, average carbonation, pleasant alcohol warmth and finish as taste with lingering mild bitterness and warmth. Overall, this really crushes it. Black as night, strong, rich aroma and taste with good complexity and elements mixing well and taking their turn on center stage. A real diamond in Lincoln.
