About
Rother Valley Brewing Company was established in Northiam in 1993 on a hop and dairy farm overlooking the River Rother that marks the boundary between Kent and East Sussex.

Cask and bottled beers were produced for distribution to many public houses, restaurants and shops in Kent and Sussex.

In May 2026 called time after 35 years following the retirement of head brewer Colin Smith.

Cask@GBBF2010. Golden colour, small white head. Aroma is crystal and caramel malts along with some mild fruity, earthy and nutty notes. Flavour is quite bitter wooden, caramel malty, a bit salty and grassy.

15th July 2010. Chelmsford Beer Festival. Clear dark brown beer. No head. Dry palate. A dash of sulphur lingering in the undertone. A little porterish - dark malt but a light presence thereof. Some tangy hop. Dry finish. Okay.

From cask. Pours clear and golden orange with a small white head. Aroma is mild fruity and slight malty. Sweet malty and subdued fruity hops flavoured. Bitter and dry malty finish. Ends dry.

Cask at the Evening Star, Brighton on 5th April 2010. Copper with vanishing head. Intensely nutty - shelled peanut - followed by citric caramel aftertaste. Light texture, pleasant pint.

Cask handpump at The Hop Pole, Aylesbury, Bucks 19-03-10 Pours mid brown with a white bubbly head. There is a lightly malty nose. In the mouth this come across as a bit of a crude bitter, its quite tasty but there is a rough bitterness ever present, certainly a ramped up (hoppier) version of the beer that Mark had. Despite my apparent criticism I didn’t mind it. A6 A3 F6 P3 Ov12 3.0

Cask, handpump at The Hop Pole, Aylesbury, Bucks, 29-02-10 Pours conker brown with some ruby glints, creamy off white head. Dark sugars on the nose and some malt. Soft and creamy in the mouth, some bitter toffee, touch on the warm side, tangy, its fine. A6 A4 F7 P3 Ov13 3.3

Cask (gravity) @ GBBF 09, Great British Beer Festival, Earls Court Exhibition Centre, London, England.Clear dark brown color with virtually none head. Aroma is moderate malty, roasted, keller, sewer - drain, wood. Flavor is moderate sweet and light to moderate bitter with a average duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is flat.
