Description
The beer of Val Dieu is synonymous of quality and authenticity. It is the only Belgian abbey beer to be 100% brewed in a living abbey such as the famous Belgian Trappist beers. The monks of the Abbey of Val Dieu are the ones who are at the origin of the beers which are brewed today on the site. Historically, the Cistercian monks were famous for their qualities as brewers. The monks of Val Dieu are in line with this reputation.

Bottle, bb 5/26. From Armadale Cellars (small, well-chosen, mainly European selection). Gold with a good cm of dense white head. Lemon pudding aroma with dough, oranges and spices. 6.5+ So it tastes. Sweet at first but a little drying at the moderately but classily bitter spiced end. Not bad at all.

0.33 l bottle from 'Drankgigant.nl', best before June 2026. Hazy, golden yellow with a medium large, frothy, almost stable, white head. Sweetish, quite fruity-floral, slightly grassy aroma of lemon peel, pineapple, gooseberry, light banana and hints of grains. Slightly sweet, gently bitter, rather fruity-floral and gently grassy-spicy taste of grains, straw, lemon peel, pineapple, gooseberry and hints of banana, followed by a short, gently bitter, quite dry finish. Medium body, quite effervescent mouthfeel, average carbonation. Nice hoppy Blond, very refreshing, highly quaffable.

Bottle 33 cl. Pours an orangey/reddish amber with a neat, slightly pink head with excellent retention. Very distinct raspberry aroma. Medium body, oddly low carbonated. Very sweet raspberry fruitiness and all seems good, but there's an underlying uncleanliness bordering moldy. Forget about any hoppiness or traces of the base Witbier - this is sugary raspberry cordial. 120425

Sample, thanks oh6gdx! Clear copper colour, mid sized head. Aroma of supermarket strawberry jam. Overly sweet with medium to full body and rounded, somewhat syrupy mouthfeel. Some starchy malt, loads of strawberry which kills off everything else in its way. Simplistic beer cocktail

Bottle 33 cl - 4.9% in my version. Pours a cloudy golden with a small, white head. Yeasty, fruity nose. Medium body, quite fruity fresh with dry orange notes. Subtle phenols. Decent. 050425

Bottle. Lots of cherry, artificial feeling. Little else, sweetish too. Tasty, drinkable, ABV hidden well, but a nice womanly alcohol delivery system. Goodish.
