Description
The first documented existence of a brewery on the location of today's Kneitinger at Arnulfsplatz was recorded more than 400 years ago. After many changes of ownership, in 1861 Johann Kneitinger I came into the possession of the brewery via marriage, together with the already existing Sommerkeller at Galgenberg. The skilled master brewer was the first to develop our strong Bockbier, with great success. After his death, his son Johann Kneitinger II refined the beer recipes even more. He also opened the restaurant at Arnulfsplatz, today known as the "mother house". Then, in the third generation, Johann Kneitinger III continued to manage the traditional company together with his wife Sofie. He died in 1975, and Sofie was his sole heir. While she was still living, she founded the "Hans und Sofie Kneitinger-Stiftung" in 1985. She died in 1991 and since then, the foundation has been the owner and operator of the Johann Kneitinger Brewery.

Bottle at Sigi's round birthday, his favorite beer. Green bottle, you can taste it a bit. Pretty dry, light malt notes, mineral/metallic earthy finish. It's okay.

Bottle 33 cl. Pours a clear, deep golden with a small yet lacing, white head. Nose has discreet citrus but also a faint, buttery note. Medium body, lightly sweet grainy and rustic malts with a dry but not overly bitter finish. Not much IPL here, way more standard South German Pils. 101025

Bottle 33 cl. Pours a clear amber with a lacing, off-white head. Slight biscuity nose. Solid malty body, is that even a slight smokiness. Solid finishing bitterness. Well crafted and in no way a light summer beer. 021025

500ml bottle. Opalescent, yellow-ish, golden colour with average to huge, thick, firm, frothy to creamy, moderately lasting, minimally lacing, snow white head. Minimally spicy, pale malty and slightly fruity, minimally floral and citrusy, hoppy aroma, a touch of melon, sorrel and nettle. Taste is slightly grassy and floral, minimally fruity hoppy, minimally spicy, pale malty basis, hints of sorrel, a touch of nettle and melon. Oily-watery texture, smooth and minimally greasy, simultaneously minimally dry palate, fine, dense, mildly prickly carbonation. Nice mouthfeel, fairly hoppy - quite OK.

(28/29.7.2023.)

330 ml bottle. Deep brown red with a fluffy head. Roasted malt, dry citrusy zesty notes, dark bread, rye, wort, earthy notes, basement notes, roasted nuts. Malty sweetness, dry bitterness. Full bodied, creamy texture, soft to lively carbonated, dry malty sweet finish. A very rural, balanced and round Bock. Very drinkable and should go well with hearthy meals.
