Description
Brewing ceased in early 2026. It's currently unclear if the tap only beers will still be brewed at another brewery of the company or if they will be discontinued.

The name “von Hövel” in Dortmund has stood for first-class brewing art for centuries. In 1518 the patrician family acquired the brewing rights on the Hövel-Hof am Hohen Wall, where Wilhelm von Hövel finally founded today's Hövels brewery in 1854. In search of the perfect beer, in 1893 he developed a mashing process with a particularly long ripening time. The result: a lean, but full-bodied beer specialty, rich in complex aromas.

Even today we feel committed to the tradition of always looking for the best, and thanks to our art of brewing, we impressively demonstrate this with new beer specialties, both in the Ruhr area and in the far north.

Ciemnobursztynowe klarowne piwo z niezłą pianą. Aromat słodu, karmelu i trochę nut miodu. W smaku podobnie dość wytrawne z lekką goryczką.

Buying it at the drinks of the world, Geneva, sharing it two days ago, in the region of the jorat with Alex, in the nature. A classical altbier, average in my point of view, rather dry and mineral, malty, bready with a touch of toffee, hop for lager, 19.11.2022

1 l growler from the brewpub. Very hazy, amber with a medium large, frothy, almost stable, off-white head. Sweetish-malty, slightly fruity-floral aroma of caramel, grains, nuts and citrus. Gently sweet, malty, moderately bitter, slightly fruity-floral taste of grains, caramel, straw, nuts and some citrus, followed by a short, moderately bitter, slightly roasty finish. Medium to full body, smooth and slightly creamy mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Not nearly as hoppy as the name suggests, still a pleasant beer, quite roasty in the finishy great mouthfeel.

Pours a clear, medium dark amberbrown. Frothy, stable creamwhite head. Scent is bit skunked (oh green glass goodness --' ) biscuitty malts. Taste is fresh, slightest bitterness, fairly crisp maltyness (biscuits) some dark bread aspects. Tad sharp (towards metallic, but not quite so) and mild skunk. OK. Nothing majorly off (just bottle in brown bottles, please! ) but nothing groundbreaking either. Very drinkable

I am 99% sure this "stout" (as advertised) is simply their Original. I'm convinced they have no idea what they're doing. This beer is brown, transparent, and lacking anything that has to do with stouts.
