Description
The name “von Hövel” in Dortmund has stood for first-class brewing art for centuries. In 1518 the patrician family acquired the brewing rights on the Hövel-Hof am Hohen Wall, where Wilhelm von Hövel finally founded today's Hövels brewery in 1854. In search of the perfect beer, in 1893 he developed a mashing process with a particularly long ripening time. The result: a lean, but full-bodied beer specialty, rich in complex aromas.

Even today we feel committed to the tradition of always looking for the best, and thanks to our art of brewing, we impressively demonstrate this with new beer specialties, both in the Ruhr area and in the far north.

Nett. 9/10/8/10//9

330ml bottle. Clear, orangey, dark golden to amber colour with average, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, off-white head. Plain, bitter hoppy aroma, grainy and strawy as a Pilsener from the 70s, weak caramel malty masis, very cautious fruity hoppy overtones with jelly bear touch. Taste is minimally sweet caramel malty, plain bitter and minimally fruity hoppy, a touch of jelly bear; monotonous, simple, almost watery.

On tap at Hövels Hausbrauerei, Dortmund. Comes with a hazy, dark geldeon color and a very nice white head. Very picturesque. Nose is sweet malts, grains, a little grass and some citric notes. Taste is sweet malty, caramel, some lemon and some yeasty flavours. As it gets warm, the finish gets sweeter.

Bottle. Golden color with soapy white head. Aroma is flowery hops, pale malts, lightstruck. Taste is flowery hops, grainy, lightstruck. A bit watery mouthfeel. Unfortunately, the green bottle destroys this beer a bit, it might be okay otherwise.

Bottle [thanks to RW80] @ home. Clear golden color, average sized white head. Smell and taste malts, light to moderately hoppy, a hint of sweetish citrus there but I can’t quite put my finger on to what it is. Average to decent body, soft carbonation. Ok.

Bottle, courtesy of Koelschtrinker. Pours clear light brown. Aroma is strongly malty, bocky, caramel, toasted malts. Body is medium to heavy, both sweet and bitter throughout, with a decently warming sweet palate. Not sure what makes this one craft. Nothing special about this, neither in flavours, taste nor balance.
