Description
Islay Ales was founded by Paul Hathaway, Paul Capper and Walter Schobert in 2004. The brewery has a 4 barrel brewing plant that produces all their ales in cask and bottle-conditioned format; therefore, the beers are never pasteurised or filtered.

In July 2018 Donald MacKenzie and Mackay Smith - ''The Islay Boys'' - took over the brewery with one goal in mind: to reconquer the hearts and minds - and tastebuds! - of the good people of Islay, and of course the many visitors to the island, by brewing straightforward, taste-upfront beers. We rely on experience, taste and aroma to guide our brewing process.

Fra flaske på RBHD sommeravslutning på Tau, juni-17: lett uklar kobbergylden med ok skum. Rå mesk, urter, lynghede og gress. Virkelig usjarmerende.

Pours a lovely reddish copper/amber colour, clear with a little bit of head. Aroma is very restrained, a bit malty, caramelly and sweet. Slight bitter note. Medium body, interesting mouthfeel. Flavour is mild, nutty, quite caramelly, surprisingly rich and malty, finishes nicely bitter and dry with a hint of orange. Nice!

One if the best from the Islay ales. Bitter and malty with a nice grassy/earthy note (fuggles/EKG hops). I enjoy it, nice light ale.

Pours pale amber, rather hazy with some yeast sediment. Some lasting white frothy head. Aroma is sadly almost nonexistent. Tiny bit of malt, tiny bit of hops. Flavours is rather nice, malty, caramelly sweet, with a nice hoppy bitterness. Lingering bittersweet finish. Quite nice, IPA-like (English IPA).

Not as bad as people make it out to be here! Aroma and Flavours are restrained but the beer is nicely bitter and has an interesting nutty and caramel note. A little peaty note. I don?t agree with the bad ratings.
